Question How does one find a local job?

Ok.....I know the title probably sounds ******ed.....so let me explain...

I've been w/ROEHL for 5 years.....and a trainer for them for 4.....the paychecks are on their way to being non-existent.

I'd like to find something local....(for me...by local I mean something maybe in my State)so maybe I could be home on the weekends.(w/Roehl I do 11-18 days out)

There's a list a mile long for Ohio companies(which is good news)anyone have any tips on how to narrow down the search.....is their rankings or something somewhere to look at???

Roehl was my 1st job and I stuck it out to have a good reference.....but am feeling like I've overstayed my welcome maybe.

    suggestions anyone?

I dont know your location but I know we have at least 2 terminals in OH....Wilmington and Youngstown......R&L gets you home daily. P+D in the day or linehaul in the night. And they recently lifted the hiring freeze.

you just have to start selling yourself, there's alot of drivers out there that are out of work and more joining them every day. What makes you stand out? One good point is 5 years with the same Co. Get your resume together and start sending it out.

Newspaper, careerbuilder.com, monster.com, indeed.com, craigslist.org, start e-mailing, filling out apps, or calling companies in your area you would be surprised how many are hiring even if they aren't advertising it. Ag related trucking always hires, look for the trucking job no one wants and take it.

ag trucking in california's central valley has it going on. my uncle knows a crap-ton of people out here that could hook me up with a gig. i've been thinking of taking up the offer(s), tbh. the only thing that's holding me back is having to deal with this state's crap all over again, and the horrible allergies i get once spring starts. i tend to get massive nosebleeds from the spring time pollen out here.

I was born and raised here in the Valley so I don't have a problem with much of the allergies but I do know what you mean by the nosebleeds I always get them when I go to LA during the spring As for the rules and b.s. I'm used to California's antics and hoops and have learned how to work around the krap. As for the ag trucking jobs it depends on what you do all I know is tomato season is coming up and they pay really. I know a guy that makes 20-25k for the season from July to October then he hauls juice oranges all winter getting about $50-$60 a load running 4-6 loads a day he does pretty well and gets to get home every night I am half tempted to try tomato season this year I have done olives and oranges in the past and the olives paid really well. If you come do tomatoes this year then I'll do them with you, Mike Lowrie Trucking or Youngs Commercial Transfer?

Ahhh tomato season. I can't wait to see the overflow tomatoes all over the freeway. They seem to be everywhere on the five.

not too sure which i may end up with. i am even considering hauling those oxy acetylene tanks around and switching them out at businesses. my dad's side of the family has hook-ups all over the ag industry. my grandfather is likely going to be placed in the FFA hall of fame. he played a big roll in dos palos high school's FFA success in the 50's in parliamentary procedure. i never got to meet him because he died of a hunting accident in 1958.

Local jobs take a lot of patience, like fishing.
I'm on to something promising here in town, i'm going for a ridealong tomorrow.
I found them cuz my wife was looking in the local classifieds, and came across a little ad. I recognized the name, gave them a call, had to -mail- a resume, and they're interested in me. Hopefully it's a good fit.
