Is this a Legal way to Log my hours??

I hate to burst your bubble but the qualcomm system most certainly does record your information and keeps it. Ever notice how you can ask a question of your boss and they can pull up a conversation from a year ago and read it verbatim? We got a message saying that the dot will start matching the qualcom to the logs also.

Yes QualComm for sure ,But Rev did not say he had QC just GPS .

Qualcomm not only records transmissions of communication for five years, it also shows when truck is running or not and a triangulation of position accurate to about a mile of your location. Next time I am home I will scan copies of printouts that I have and post them. I have seen on two occasions trucks running down the highway with aluminum foil covering their QC dome(dead giveaway for DOT to pull you over, much easier to unplug if you are so inclined)

Don't forget that the FMCSA lifted the ban 3 weeks ago. If your truck has GPS, your log MUST match exactly.

I read something about that recently, as well. We have 2 or 3 posters referring to it but no one has provided a link. My recollection was that FMCA has applied for a rule change but I don't know that it has been granted, yet.

For clarity, they're seeking access to the GPS feature of the QC and like equipment to use in the course of a carriers audit, not the Drivers personal GPS for a roadside inspection. On the other hand, if you were to have the misfortune of running over a busload of nuns and responding LEO's find cause to believe you were using a GPS you can bet your bottom dollar they'll do everything they legally can to gain access to it.

Would one of the resident eggheads please step forward on the presence or absence of a recording function on a personal GPS? Mine is laptop based so I'll assume that, like everything else, the record is there and preserved unless and until it's specifically overwritten.

i know i'm wrong for doing this and it's illegal but if i'm parked one or two miles away from a shipper at a backhaul i'll leave and won't say i'm on duty or driving.. once i'm loaded and ready to leave that's when i put i move to line 4/line 3.. it's the only way i can make money.. i can't lose 3-4 hours just for moving 1 to 2 miles.. i know it again it's illegal and wrong but time is money and time is precious in this line of trucking!! I feel sorry for the OTR Reefer guys.. cooking that log book.. Hell with that!!

At our Wal-Mart account we are require to stand on the dock and pull stickers off the freight that comes off the truck when we are at a store.. I log every single min that i'm standing on that dock.. albeit 30 mins to an 1 hour.. Some if not most of our guys like to log 15 mins and go off duty instead of log the whole time that they was on the dock.. I know my 70 would be burning and it could cost me a load (like this 1000 mile run i head from Gordonsville Va to Havelock NC 300 Miles, then to Mt. Olive to pick up Pickles 100 Miles then to the Bedford PA Dc to Deliver them 400 Miles.. Then Deadhead back to Gordonsville, 200 Miles.. Not to mention $30 extra bucks for the backhaul and $15 for a stop) but i had to turn it down cause they way i log (LEGALLY IN THE DOCK CASE) i didn't have enough on my 70, also not to mention the usually bad routing on stops from Wal-Mart).. But every min outside of that situation i mention in the first paragraph every min i spend dealing with that truck (i.e paperwork, fuel, pre-trip, scaling loads, picking up loads, and standing on the dock) i log.. hell with that 70, when it burns out i'm going to the HOUSE!!!

The first paragraph is the only thing i do illegal when it comes to logs, outside of them staying current which i usually update them when i finish my last stop or when i'm going past a scale, outside of that my books stay legal and neat..

By the way... How in the world do that boy not know how to do his logs?? i hope he's not driving for an OTR company or he was a local driver or something?? If he went to a school and did get teach logging this is sad!! The DOT would have a field day with this guy!!

my last mentor was running a wal-mart DC account, and we had to pull stickers off the freight. But he showed me to only give them 15 minutes at the dock, then go to line 1. yeah, its 'wrong', but do they pay me for pulling stickers off the freight? no...the pay me for moving freight from DC to store. i pull stickers for free as a courtsey.

not to mention there were a few stores where they just didnt have a CLUE how to unload a truck. they spend 30 min looking for that electric pallet jack, when there are 6 manual ones right there. this one guy was obviously new and didnt have very good hand-eye coordination. took him an hour to unload 8 pallets. just about did it myself.....sorry, not going to burn an hour per stop just cause they want to take their sweet ol time unloading their stuff.

yes as many times as you want or need, when ever your not driveing or working you should be on line 1 or 2 just make sure if your logging line 2 (sleeper) that your really in it and not in the T/S playing vidio games. BUT!! Remember being on line 1 does NOT stop your 14hr clock.Unless you take your full break .
