    Default Guess this happens more than I thought....

    Sitting here in Temple, TX waiting for my trailer to finish being loaded, i heard this chatter on the CB i thought was rather amusing....

    I came out of Laredo a day or two ago, and went thru this checkpoint where they had dogs, and some guy asked me 'you an american citizen?'. I'm guessing this is where it happened, but the story i heard goes like this. Think they said it was a swift driver, but he got pulled over, and they popped the trailer, and he had 160some mexicans stuffed in the trailer. It was an MT trailer, and he gave them a bunch of water, and was given $4,000 a head....and each one got him 10 years in the slammer.

    Not all swift drivers, but i think they said in the past week they busted 30some odd drivers trying to smuggle illegals in.

    You know what....with the ecomony in the tank, i would be trying to sneak into mexico just about now. =)

    don't believe all the bullcrap you hear on the billy bob band.

    there's a story out there that takes place in new jersey. in it, a truck driver makes a right turn, gets blocked by somebody in a *nice* car, the driver of the car refuses to move, a cop rolls up on the trucker, tells him to make the turn and knock the car out of the way, or get a ticket for obstructing traffic. the trucker makes the turn, hitting the car, and the cop does NOTHING about it. that story, kevin, is a pile of steaming bullcrap. it is not unique. there are many variations of it.

    another one is how many ex-military truckers out there claiming to have been snipers. most of them claim to have beeen force recon snipers. i even came across one who said it was his bullet that killed uday and qusay hussein. i laughed in his face. whowuddathunk that we'd be driving along the highways with a bunch of SNIPERS?! hahahahahahahhahahahhah!

    Well, to be honest, it's not tough to believe the story about the immigrants...but I strongly doubt a Swift driver could do it. If I understand things correctly, US drivers can't go into Mexico to get loads...you can't smuggle over the border when you yourself can't go over the border...

    But I do know that Mexican carriers can and do cross the border regularly Wouldn't doubt in the least that they nail a few of them trying to smuggle illegals.....

    It has to happen though. I mean i've been to several Swift terminals, and Laredo is the ONLY one i've seen with a poster that says "Dont Smuggle Drugs or Aliens, its not worth your CDL"..or something to that effect.

    as far as the numbers? i'm pretty sure they've been sensationalized just a bit, but you cannot tell me it dont happen.

    Considering there is a huge shift going on, and more and more illegal aliens are actually leaving the US now, I find it hard to believe.

    I got stopped at mobile Border Patrol Checkpoint on 95 in Arizona a week or so ago. The regular station was closed and they were up the highway about 10 miles past it.

    They had a dog or two and were sniffin every vehicle that went past.

    My reefer was running at 35 degrees so they figured anyone in the back was pretty well chilled....

    I forgot where i saw this town....either it was in AZ or on my way thru CA....but i was going to take a picture of this sign that said "Banning next 4 exits". thought it was kinda cute. =) wonder if that is the same "banning"?

    kinda like a bank i saw in Missouri or Kansas....it was in the town "Tightwad" and the bank was "Tightwad Bank"
