Okay, doing my taxes via TurboTax, and i notice that the standard federal deduction is $5,450. So all those receipts i've saved for food, tools, windshield washing fluid, etc. those dont get deducted unless I itemize, and hope i've spent more than $5,450 ??? someone who has used TT...please let me know if i am missing something. Pretty much everything i have bought/paid for since i started schooling to now, has been while i've been on the truck. it should all be deductable.......

You can include other expenses other than trucking to be able to itemize. The biggest help in itemizing is mortgage interest. There are also charitable donations and other things. Take a look at Schedule A and see what you might have to include. But, usually it takes mortgage interest and property taxes (usually on your 1098 if taxes are paid by your mortgage lender), or significant medical expenses in most cases to itemize. HTH

for some reason, i hardly ever get anything back from arizona. i'm no tax expert, though. overall, i'm pleased with the way things came out. at first glance, they thought that i'd owe money. they turned out being wrong, and my nerves became calm afterward.
