Default Is pulling in so hard?

I understand that if it's late and the only parking spots open are the Idleaire ones. And I don't mind if you idle while parking there.

But, for the love of God, pull in straight. In the past month or so I have been cursed by drivers not being able to pull into a spot in straight, most of the time the trailer is cut into my spot or the driver on the other side.

What's amusing about this is the next morning if the leave before I do, I get a show of them taking 10 minutes and 10 pull ups trying to get them selves out.

Be very careful when you back out of a space. I've seen a few trucks parked behind get hit. I don't like to go into a place that has it. If it were BACK IN, it would be a different story, but backing out is a hazard.

When I was OTR, I always seemed to seek out the less-filled, Mom'n'pop, fill-up stations.

That and I always tried to look for a parking spot once the ninth-hour has been breached.

A few nights ago I sat for 18 min. while a garbage hauler tried to back into a space, he had a guide out on the ground but just couldn't get the swing right. There was some chit on the cb about his lack of backing skills and I got to thinking, how much does an end dump driver really back up when hauling garbage?

But on the other side there is alot parking geniuses out there! I've seen them park blocking the scale and even 4 side by side in the entrance drive going to the fuel pumps leaving just enough room to get by all the time there is a dozen or so empty spaces in the lot, go figure.

It is also quite possible that your garbage hauling neighbor, trying to collect extra money by rolling down the lot, might have been a "TRAINEE" and the "guide" might have been his trainer. Or, he could simply be a new driver with little experience. For that matter... I've had "off days" where I just couldn't seem to get it right.

The angle of the lines and all that overhead steel creates the illusion that you're pulling in straight.

Instead of everyone manuvering to get "straight" between the lines, everyone should just go with the illusion.

That way we could all be parked crooked together.

Backing out has never been a problem for me. I just go slow and and keep a eye on the mirrors. That's not to say I haven't seen more than a few guys come mighty close to ripping of a rear bumper or two.

That's why I pull a three unit trailer, never could back up. Most I ever do is drop my main trailer and pull up 20 feet. Crane, or forklift, sits my jeep in front of the trailer and I back up under it then back it under the main trailer Sometimes I even have to back the whole thing up if I had the stinger decked

As tight as some truck stops are, I'd rather back in the spot, than pull in.

the pilot (or is it loves?) in ripon, ca has idle-aire spots that you can back in to. they're the spots on the north side of the real crappy lot.

    It's the Loves.

You can give / use a lot of excuses for why it happens - it boils down to drivers not giving a rats ass about their fellow drivers.

This link: http://truckdriversparadise.wordpress.com/ will take you to my site with

-Job Hots Search file (Excel and Web Page)
-as well as links to pictures for you to look at.

Expediting is different, but the same, but it's different. I'm so confused.

i cannot stand it when i'm about to go into an idle-aire spot, only to find some jackass has his/her trailer in the lane i wanna get into. once there was a gordon driver at the t/a east in ontario, ca that had done it. it was a good spot, too. nothing behind to hit. i hate it when people do that ****, and then do nothing to correct the situation. ones who do that deserve to have their tires slashed, and fuel pissed in.

Very true! I've seen drivers fly thru the parking lot with drivers backing out. They just blow their horn and keep on driving thru...hoping the driver backing up stops, I guess! It has happened to me backing out slowly so I dont hit anything.
    Drive safe!

not to mention making sure you do the latter 'on time', or end up 'serving time'? yeah??

oh...kinda funny how a long time ago i said 'backing is the most dangerous time'...and i was told i was 'wrong'. but someone just said "backing is dangerous than pulling straight out"....hmmm....

    That is my point exactly.

If your crooked in your own lane, fine. But when your trailer is in mine, or a empty one and you just leave that way. It makes me just shake my head as to how anyone can be so oblivious to what they do and how it affect others.

Texas....i'd go a step farther and say some KNOW what they're doing, and just dont CARE how it effects others. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to parking and docking a trailer. I want it as flush as i can get it. Yeah, i might look a bit foolish rolling up and back...but i want to be perfectly square to the dock and square in my parking spot. being NEW, i still cannot pull into a 45* parking spot at a rest area, and when i come to a stop, be paralell in my spot. i will be in my spot (before anybody says anything to me), just not perfectly straight.

Some just dont consider other drivers when picking their spot. If i am going to park in front of someone along a curb (that being the only spot left in a truck stop) i will atleaste get out and make sure the guy behind me has the room to pull out and around without having to knock on my sleeper to get my ass to move.

I guess it's nobody's fault, but the thing that is really annoying, are those lots that have no marked lines. its hard to judge exactly where to park for the first few trucks in and when you pull in late at night, theres tons of holes, but they're all barely too narrow to fit in

i wish i could remember where the most outrageous example is, on I-5 central cali a ways south of stockton I think. Its a mom and pop truckstop, pretty dirty inside. Theres a Love's (edit: i think its a pilot actually) directly across the freeway. holes everywhere in the gravel and its just a gongshow, everyone just shuts down anywhere you can find level ground. looks ridiculous once it's full :P

The Mom and Pop Truckstop must be the one in Westley.
