    Default I have some questions

Ok, first off, I haven't been here in a while, so I don't know what's changed lately.

    1. I have my CDL, but I got it in 2005. I had a DUI in 2001 that kept me from getting a driving job then. In anyones opinion, will this be a problem now? I haven't had ay marks since then either.

    2. Since I couldn't get a job right out of driving school, what would most companies offer as a refresher? Or would I have to shell out another 3-6K and take a CDL training course again?

    3. Is it still typically 6 months to a year before most companies will let a driver "pick" a local or dedicated route?

I am in a pickle because the shop I work for may have to shut it's doors by next month, and I want to get something lined up if/when that happens. And about the only way my wife will go for this is if I can eventually be home every night. And I agree with her, but I am willing to do what I need to to get on a local run. As long as it's not food service lol. A driving job isn't my only option, but it's the most attractive at the moment. Plus, I would need the home time to be with my wife and son.

Any ideas, thoughts, etc., let me know. I'll have more later, I'm sure lol.

There are a number of carriers that will hire someone with a DUI after at least 5 years. Some may want a longer period to pass. A few won't hire anyone who has ever had a DUI. Each carrier makes their own policy. You can get an idea about some of the different carriers policies by checking the company listings on this website. Many of the larger carriers are listed. It has been 7 years since your DUI. As long as it wasn't in a commercial vehicle it isn't something that would be insurmountable. It just may require a little leg work to find the right fit. I would not automatically disqualify an applicant simply due to the DUI as long as several years have elapsed and there were no other surprises in their background. If an applicant had the DUI in a commercial truck then I would not touch him regardless of how many years have elapsed.
