Default Cb Radio - Antenna Tech

I'm shopping for a new antenna. My little Firestik broke off at the base

    1. What convinced you to buy your current antenna?
    2. How much was it?
    3. How do you like it?

I don't need anything fancy. I had a nice 11 mile range on a clear day with my little Uniden and Firstik.

I see some simple and some UFO looking antennas out there but I don't really know what the difference is. How is each one different then the others? I'm looking to spend under $50.

    Default CB Radio - Antenna

    1. What convinced you to buy your current antenna? Needed a clamp-on and not a magnetic mount.
    2. How much was it? Don't remember, bought more than ten years ago.
    3. How do you like it? Works fine, most important thing is the VSWR match between the radio and the antenna. If you don't know how to do it, have it done.
"on a clear day" - What's that have to do with anything?

i run a Predator 10K antenna from cowtown antennas. you wont find then in any truck stops mostly cb shops and off the internet.

mine was 65 with shipping and is a really good antenna. its a aluminum round coil antenna thats very light weight.

when compared to a MonkeyMade the weight is a VERY large difference. my MonkeyMade was so heavy it would break the mirror mount and also the mirror brackets.

if your looking for a glass antenna, a 4 foot Francis hotrod works good. but for glass antennas i have had the best luck with a Wilson silver load. but make sure you set your SWR.

also a big improvement would be to invest is some good quality coax. stock coax from the factory on trucks really sucks and you get a lot of line loss out of it.

RG8X is pretty good stuff but i would advise getting it from a cb shop with the ends soldered on verses what the truck stop sells because those are just crimped on ends and i have never had any luck with that stuff.

If you had a range of 11 miles, I would get another Firestick.

Me, I have used Francis Hotrods. I've had good luck.
