Default Methods of Paying CPM: Which Is Best?

The company that I am considering pays their drivers according to a computer program called PC Miler Plus.

Of the three methods of paying CPM--HHG, practical, or PC Miler Plus, which is the fairest and best for the driver?

Out of the three mentioned, Practical Miles would be the closest to actual driven, assuming you use the route given/same route miles figured on. Practical miles pay the shortest, truck legal/practical route.

HHG is the shortest possible route, post office to post office, regardless if the route is truck accessible or not.

PC Miler, Rand Mcnally miles, etc you have to watch. Depending on the options selected when computing miles they may be figured anywhere from HHG to Practical and most anything in between. When companies say they pay PC Miler or Rand McNally miles pretty much all the are really telling you is that they use computer software when computing miles on a trip.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

PC Miler software is capable of calculating shortest route, practical route, hazmat, etc, so "Pay by PC Miler" isn't exactly telling you much.

Expect to drive at least 5% more miles than you will be paid for unless the company pays HHG -- then up that "unpaid miles" rate to 8%. A company that pays by the hub is going to pay less CPM, and if they find you going significantly out of route they will terminate your employment.

Practical miles, 5% unpaid, translates to 50 miles on a 1000 mile trip. No, it's not at all fair to the driver. But it's fairly universal in OTR trucking to cheat drivers out of pay they have rightfully earned, so there's not much you can do about it at this time. There's currently a class action lawsuit against Swift on this issue, but it's based on HHG miles with drivers being consistently shorted 6.5% on their mileage pay. The outcome of that suit remains to be seen, unless I've missed it.

    Drivers complain quite alot...

yet they make practically zero attempt to organize and make things right

    or even close to balanced.

    Not complaining mind ya's...

just pointing out what i see out here on the road

Hope the Swift guys set things straight with their lawsuit....

i wonder does who ever initiated it still work at Swift :?:

I would say that most carriers pay on the way that they are paid by the shipper.
