Quick question

This is probably been answered before, and I tried the search button thing lol but wow. I was having some issues. I type in swift and get a billion responses.

I know there equipment is newer so they say on the website but my question is what transmission do they run? I'm thinking the Standard 10.

Another question that goes with that shifting one lol. I'm not that worried about shifting, it's shifting down I'm worried about lol. As they say practice makes perfect?

I am reasonably sure it is a standard Fuller 10 speed. Thats what I had at Central Refrigerated which is basically Swifts Reefer Division.....

Are you talking about 8 speeds WITH A GRANNY LOW? I've never heard of an 8 speed. 9 speed, yes.

When I ran for them, 9 speed was the norm, although I had a 13 speed (which was extremely uncommon). Some of the older model FLDs did come with a ten speed, although those will have long been retired from the fleet by now. When they adopted the Volvos, those came with a ten speed. It's been a long time since I've worked for them, but it's highly unlikely they're going to stray from the basic transmission models.. 9 and 10 speeds. The 13 speed I ran was a west coast truck, intended to pull those Rocky Mountain doubles... how it ended up in Eden, I have no idea, but the only other company trucks I encountered which had them were the west coast trucks pulling the Rocky Mountain doubles.

Actually, most of the automatics I see now are the SmartShift, which are fully automated. The autoshift transmission still required you to operate the clutch. If Swift had started adopting those - even a limited number - I'm willing to venture that someone would've mentioned it, because all eyes are on Swift whenever the slightest bit of news comes about.

Auto shifts are becoming a common fleet transmission too, slowly but surely.

swift seems to be experimenting with the auto-shifts. check out their company trucks that begin with 303. many of those are auto-shifts.

Don't worry about down shifting. With time, you'll get better. Every truck is a little different. If you get into a new truck it's going to be a little different from the last truck even if they're set up the same. We were o/o for 8 years and had 2 trucks. I knew those trucks very well and knew when to shift, but put me in a buddy's truck and I was at a total loss! It just takes a little time to get used to, especially if you're a new driver.

Don't let shifting get you down (ha ha- get it? get it? Sorry, it's a slow day for me!).

My Volvo is a 9 speed. I believe all of U.S. Xpress' Volvo 780s are autos.

8) i have been running the fuller 10 speed auto smart shift with a clutch pedal for 8 months now. all i can say is i am really impressed. my torn rotator cup in right shoulder is healing better. the manual option is great for those long down grades we have out west here. in traffic it is good, i love having the clutch pedal when backing.
