Dieselpower;
What other people think does not matter in the least. If more people had the discipline to do what you are doing, then we would not be scratcing our heads, confroned with the economic problems that we are currently facing.
The key to true wealth and prosperity is by treating your paycheck as the SEED of your labors not as the FRUIT of them. The more seeds you eat, the fewer seeds you have to plant. The fewer seeds you have to plant, the smaller your future harvest will be.
There are clear Spiritual considerations here as well. While I am not a Christian, I do believe what The Bible tells us in The Book of Genesis;
"By the sweat of your brow shall you sew your seed, and in sorrow shall you eat of it."
What does that mean to me?? It means that you will work for seed, and when you eat your seed, you will cost yourself the hopes and benefits of a future harvest. Now, obvioulsly, we all eat part of our seeds; we need food, clothing, shelter, transportation, insurance, and we have other costs of living as well. While those things are necessary, the fact is that with every dollar we spend, we have fewer seeds to sew. So now, the more fundamental issue becomes choosing between those things we truly need, those things we merely desire, and most importantly, the discipline and wisdom to distinguish the differences between the two. It's easy to fall into the trap of justifying our wants by confusing them with needs.
When you look at the economic meltdowns we are facing in the housing and financial markets, people want to blame Wall St., Washington, D.C., the politicians, the financial institutions,..... in reality, people are balming everyone but themselves. We, as a society, caused many of these problems by spending money we did not have on things we did not need. We demanded the lowest price for the things we bought, mindless of the high cost of the lowest price.
Now, our collective chickens are coming home to roost, the worst is yet to come, and we have fooled ourselves into believing that the solutions will be found by electing a new Republican President, or a new Democrat president, or an Independent candidate to lead the nation. In the end, we want quick, easy, painless solutions to complex problems which have grown and festered, and been ignored for many years. These problems did not creep up overnight. The handwritting has been on the wall for years. In truth, these problems will not be solved quickly, easily, painlessly, or without unfortunate outcomes. In short, we are pi$$in' in the wind, turning to others for solutions that are really within ourselves, both as individuals, and as a society.
With every dollar you spend, you are surrendering control of a part of your life to others. With every dollar you invest, you are gaining more control over your life and opening more options for your future. think about it; people without cash are people without options. People without options have little or no control over their lives, and are controlled by others. People who have little or no control over their lives are often resentful of those who do. You should not allow them to dictate anything to you. Why would you allow someone who's financial life does not work to dictate a game plan to you?? What your uncle thinks should not matter to you at all. You are building. If he resents that, then that is his problem.
People who hold loser's attitudes, who are down and out because of their attitudes and their poor choices in life, and sabotge their lives, tend to want to spread their poisons to sabotage others, to drag other down to their level, and resent those who refuse to be dragged down by them. Don't allow them to do it to you.
As far as the notion of worrying about paying more in taxes because you earn more, that is nothing but a loser's refrain. Personally, I pay more in income taxes each year than the first year driver will gross in his first year of driving. My grumbles about taxation are not with what I pay in taxes, but rather how inefficiently and inappropriately those dollare are spent. Add to that, your IRA contributions are tax deductible, unless you are investing in a Roth IRA. Quite interestingly, Roth IRS's are excellent investment tools, because while the contributions are not tax deductible, the returns they produce are tax free, providing they meet withdrawl qualifications.
So stop worrying, keep building, and when people criticize you for building, or resent you for the control you are gaining over your life and what for you are building, remember something very important.
"Every day that goes by just forces me to add one more name to the list of people who can just kiss my ass" !!
Looking at this, I can see that I've gotten back on my soap box, but this matter extends far beyond saving and investing a little money, and there are reasons why I preach about this as I do. The true issues here are ones of perspectives, and making the right choices in life.
Statistically, I should be one of those people who are down and out, on the outside looking in. Growing up with what I grew up with, I should be homeless, or in prison, strung out on drugs or alcohol, or dead, with several children born to several different women, all needing child support and the love of a father, with none of them getting any of the things, the support, the care, or most importantly, the love that they need. Statistically, that's where people like me tend to wind up. Statistically, that's also how the poisons spread.
Through the Grace of The Highest Power, I was Blessed with working for some very good people who saw potential in me; they demanded a lot of me, and taught me to demand the best from myself, people who inspired me to beat the odds, and to build. None of that could have happened if they had not given me the capacity to discover that I could be more that what I was. The many gifts they gave me were not in the form of paychecks..... I earned those. The gifts were the insight and inspiriation as to what to do with the money I had earned, and discovering the person thast I wanted to be.
Through all of that, I eventually started a small business from an empty bedroom in a rented house, and later sold it for over 400 times my original investment; for me, that proved to be just the beginning. I've also created several hundred previously non-existent jobs. I now have the honor and the privillege of being able to reach out, and to help others.
So I offer my perspectives to you with the hope that they will not only help you, but also inspire you, and perhaps others as well, to start building, to keep building, and to never stop building. The true issues here extend far beyond money alone.
Congratulations to you, and keep building!!
