1 ticket in Jan 07...Should I get a CDL

Hi..
I'm thinking about CDL school. I have 1 ticket on my DMV record. It's illegal lane change in Jan. 07. Will my choices be limited with that on my record?

If that is the only thing on your record it may not make much of a difference to some carriers. I suggest calling some recruiters and ask them. My guess it will have more to do with the circumstances. It could limit you to some degree, but I would still call around. There are some recruiters who frequent this forum. Worst scenario would be that you would need to keep your nose clean and wait until that drops off your record. It usually takes about 3 years.

I agree with GMAN.....Check with a number of companies before pursing the CDL....
That particular offense is a serious traffic violation, and is addressed in the FMCSA Part 383

If that is the case it could make a big difference as to whether any company would hire you. I suppose it would come down to them running a criminal background check on you. Some do, others may not. If you have 3 DWI's on you record it will likely be difficult and next to impossible for you to get on with any reputable carrier. They may overlook one, but no more than one. It has been so many years ago, they might not catch it unless they run the criminal background check. The criminal check will get all of it.

I have 3 driving while impaired in 1978-80, I have 2 points on my record now from a illegal lane change in Jan. 2007. Criminal history is larceny from an auto 1974 and reckless discharge of a firearm 1990 both misdemeanors.
