I wouldnt apply so early, maybe 2 or 3 weeks prior should suffice. You're applying to a trucking company, not an ivy league school. On a side note,I hope all goes well with school and you get a reputable company. BOL!Originally Posted by bigpapa7272

i was thinking about halfway through school.
Hey martendrvrca does marten hire students?
Anyone heard of CT transportation?? They have a poster up in our classroom and they advertise southeast regional jobs for students.
i had not really thought about them i know they do a lot of solo cup runs in owings mills.
do they hire students??
anyone have any thoughts on dm bowman?
If you are trying to get on with Bowman, see if they have any openings at the TSC(Tractor Supply Company) warehouse in Hagerstown. All store delivers.Originally Posted by bigpapa7272
As for Cowan, never heard anything bad about them(that's a good thing).
Yea,marten does hire students.Originally Posted by MartenDrvrCA
Are you talking about Coastal Transport? If so, they are a flatbed company that runs from Baltimore down to Florida, get you home weekends and have a decent pay scale. I have not ever drove for them, but I have talked to a recruiter and a few of their drivers, which all seemed happy. Not the greatest company, but not a bad place to start and no north east.Originally Posted by bigpapa7272
yeah thats who im talking about that's what their poster says at school. I was thinking about them.
werner is coming tuesday I don't know if I should apply with them or not
cowan requires one year... i know back in the day bowman hired students but i'm not sure now... i use to see them go up 95 in central va with tractor supply dry vans and flats with steel pipes.. i called the recruitment number a while back and they said a year but they couldnt hire me anyways because they had shipped all of their terminals out of virginia
thanks for the info hawkjr
What i did in school was research the hell out of all these companies. if I were you I would apply to anyone that you even think about going with. that way you always know if they will even hire you. then once you get the list of companies that are willing, go back through and compare. The way the pay plans are set up it takes a little bit of effort to really figure out which is the best fit for you. take in account health care and maybe 401K. the school i went to lasted 18 weeks I started applying after the first month. the companies that hire students are used to the process.
also consider the time that you plan on working there. after your first year you have a lot more options than as a student. assuming that you didn't get into an accident. :?
YEAH ICS
SAince I already have 2 weeks under my belt and 8 to go. I started applying.
Ive applied to
Swift
PAM
USA
Transport America
Maverick
Depending on what the werner rep says this week i'll apply there too.
