Default Another question about OTR experience

I know this question has been asked before but I want to ask a more specific question about my experience.

I drove with Schneider for 15 months OTR then I found a local job and now I drive 400 miles(round trip) every night from Ohio to Detroit,Mi. I have to use a logbook . I am home daily.

Foodliner has a terminal real close to me and they want 2 years OTR.

In December I will have 2 years tractor trailer experience, 15 months was OTR.

I basically do everything now the same as I did when i was OTR except I dont sleep in the truck.

Could someone explain the signifigance of "OTR" versus what I am doing now?

Could I be rejected down the road by companies that want 2-3 years OTR experience? I really dont understand why they want OTR experience. I drive 2000 miles a week.

otr usually means they want you to have experience in all weather conditions and mountains and have a basic knowledge of highways and where truckstops are and things like that.

You will never know until you ask them. I answered an ad that said 3-5 years experience and I only had 1 year and they were going to hire me. I turned them down anyway after finding a local job.

I agree with Borat. I had 15 years driving local and applied to OTR company and they took me with no problem. Now I am hauling oversize stuff holding up traffic wherever I go. Yeah Me.
Don't trust anybody. Especially that guy in the mirror.

I also agree with Jay B. Call and ask. But...to answer your specific question...along with Fredogs' response, I would also add OTR experience would include driving irregular freight over irregular routes.
