    Default Recruiter told me that...

...going to their training center and passing would be equal to 2 years OTR experience. My first thought was yeah right how could that be. I still think the same now. Now is that true or bs?

Sounds like complete BS to me.

One hell of a good way to get new drivers into the training center though.

Hmm. I'm not sure if I should post the name of the school or not. There's one week left before I go, and now I'm having second thoughts.

Why doesn't anyone do their research before they make decisions?

50 driving hours x 50 weeks is 2,500 hours. 50 driving hours x 100 weeks (2 years) is 5,000 hours. If you go the maximum number of driving hours in a week it comes to 70 hours. 70 driving hours x 50 weeks is 3,500 hours for the year. 70 driving hours x 100 weeks (2 years) is 7,000 driving hours. This assumes 2 weeks off per year. I don't think any school is going to allow you to drive that many hours. Besides, there is much more to driving than holding a steering wheel and shifting gears. You can only learn so much out of a text book. Most of what you learn will be on the job.

Most schools when they say their training is worth "X" amount of experience they are comparing it to a person with zero instruction at all jumping into a truck and trying to figure out everything by themselves and how long it would take them to reach the same over all level of knowledge and skill as someone who went through that course.

Now with that said, even the best schools are not going to do better than maybe a 4-6 month head start over the above scenario and your typical school maybe 2 months.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

    Default Recruiter told me that...

I'm not sure if I should post the name of the school or not. Name it. The only Swift owned training areas, that I know of, are their schools in Phoenix and Millington, Tn. Was the "recruiter" a Swift employee or a commissioned based "recruiter". Even the most unethical company recruiter I can't imagine saying that. Fully concur with GMan's post. Down the road, future employers may ask to see pay slips or some other way to verify employment and competence. But a company school and a years experience equaling "2 years OTR experience", I don't think so. BOL

Don't believe what most recruiters say.. do your own research... another thing, odds are you will be packed in a truck with up to 4 other students taking 30 mins a turn to drive.. trust me it's not a good look.. you can't get into a rhythm..

The first school i went to, the recruiter told me that going to his school was equal to one year experience.. he even told me of one company that hires from his school.. i called and ask the company two days before i started school do they hire from that specific school and the lady laughed and said 2 YEARS!! and hung up!! Most coordinators from programs like that get commission.. they are salesman.. they'll tell you anything just to get you to come.. money out of your pocket into there pocket!!

so do your homework... and if you can back out.. back out!! plus what part of NC are u in?? i've heard great things about ISO Community College out in western NC

Its Alliance Tractor Trailer out of Wytheville, VA. He also claimed there are around 250 companies that hire drivers from their school. He also said certain companies only hire students who passed with at least a 90%.

Sounds like he is a chronic liar....(COUGH)I mean, a typical recruiter.

If you didnt already sign with this place, then run now. How many more times do you want to be lied to??

250 companies hire from a school? Maybe 25. The rest of the 225 he claims, will hire you whether you go to their school or not, if we're talking about companies that hire rookies.

Ask for a full list of the 250 companies that hire from their school, then randomly call 25 of them (10%) and verify that to be true.

my school didn't push certain companies. Some came and talked to us, but it was up to us where we wanted to go. I went straight to carhauling for a O/O.

Just Stay away from Shippers Choice in Virginia, John Tyler, Frank D Camp and The School in Fredricksburg.. But i know alliances have nice clean petes and classic freightshakers they train in. don't know about the instructors or class sizes.. but they tell you anything to come on.. honestly speaking there is only around 30 companies (also long as your over the age over 25) that will probably hire you out of school. maybe less than that because they have to be an company approved school... so please believe its BS about 250 companies!!

That school in Fredericksburg, actually it's in Thornburg even though the website says Woodord, CDS Tractor Trailer Training. I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them. They go up and down Rt. 1 and it's a wonder they don't get rear-ended. I guess they tell the drivers on their first trip out to keep it under 30 mph. They go down the right lane of Rt. 1 with their flashers on. I swear they don't teach them anything in the few times I have driven by their lot. They like to go up 1 to get on 17 North and really screw up traffic.

Used to be an Alliance at Ladysmith, VA but I don't know if it's still there, you could see it thru the trees from 95 South.

Easy answer to that, Mr. Ford. They are training future OTR steering wheel holders, nothing more, nothing less. Can we agree on that part?
