Tell me if this is a Decent Newbie Gig Or Not...

A OTR company (i'm not putting their name so i dont have to hear about how bad there going to screw me but if you know who it is go for it) is willing to offer me 36 cents a mile for Northeast Regional... Mileage around 1800 to 2000 a week, says home most weekends... for a newbie fresh out of school is that a good deal???

Myself, I'd say no. Consider the fact that you'll be doing under 2k miles per week in the worst traffic in the country for low wages.

Well, a couple of thoughts....

Seems with that average mileage, the recruiter is not inflating numbers to look good...take what they are offering you, multiply it out, and see if that's enough money for you to take the job.

Without knowing which company it is, there's not much else that can be discussed here...

1800-2000 miles per week at .36 cpm in the Northeast. I wouldn't start their truck for that.

Can you live on $720/week less taxes. What is the company's definition of "most weekends"? When I started out I tried being home every other weekend and it sucked. Every other weekend probably satisfies the definition of "most weekends". BOL

They may very well be inflating the mileage, based upon the area. 1800 - 2000 miles, running only the Northeast may be difficult depending upon what specific area you would be running.

well damn lol.. let me spill the beans but its swift!!! they have terminal out of richmond and is looking for regional drivers... she said i would run west va, ohio, western pa, and upstate new york, i guess she didn't say jersey, delaware and etc, knowing that i might say something about the traffic!! (i was stuck in washington dc for 3 hours the other day)...she said 36 cents a mile in my email packet she sent me... this so far is kinda the best deal i've seen for my area and for a recent grad.. by all means i have tried and tried to not get on board with a otr carrier but i really have no choice so please don't blast me.. i can't do ltl because i don't have hazmat.. in virginia u have to be 21 to get your hazmat and i just turned 21 a week ago.. to make matters worse if i try to get it now it would take over a month and a half to get the background check done...but if anyone else care to help your more than welcome and for those who have i appreciated

You could do worse. I'm a bit skeptical about the mileage you listed, though.
If you're running a regional route, there'll probably be a good chance that you'll have certain shippers and receivers you'll constantly deal with, and you'll become well acquainted with them. That's always a good thing.
I'm really surprised they'll hire you at 21. I was 21 when I got out of the Army, and I called a number of companies, including Swift. They said they couldn't hire me until I turned 23. Some time later, I found out that they did have a provision where they'd hire you if you served at least 30 months on active duty and made it to E4 within that time (I did four years, and made E5).
It won't be perfect.. no company is. But you have to start somewhere, you know?
