    Not misguided, maybe mispoken.

I should have said "our state" NY pays the 2nd highest amount in fuel taxes in the US and the highest amount in property taxes.

Silver threatened to raise the fuel taxes here if this convoy went through our state capitol.

The fact that those drivers had a handle on their cost's to drive to Albany and do that protest, is a major step forward. Much better than some of the operators in earlier protests. I did not watch the entire clip, so may have missed something, but....after hearing the Governor...no way could I listen to the second "Politico".....they were only out there, I am sure...to be seen on TV....Not to support the truck owners and drivers, or families.

The Owner who spoke with the reporter, before the "politicos" came out......was one of the best I have seen, in clips such as this. OOIDA needs to get him involved in some of their lobbying efforts down in DC, I think.

But let's be honest here, if you took away the federal tax, the state tax, any local tax, then took away oil company profits, and bought the diesel at cost, it would be around $3.50 a gallon!

Yes...if you based the "profit" on only the diesel sale alone. Remember though..an oil company's profit margin on crude oil, comes from more than just the sale of a refined or distilled product. "Refining & Marketing" is one of the single largest shell games in the world.

Also Allan...your forgetting what the protest that this particular thread is "about"....increased road tolls in New York state, the requirement that has been proposed that all trucks run only the Interstate system, as their primary routing to a job site, load pick-up or a load delivery. That alone, combined with the higher cost of diesel fuel(remember now..the trucks will be driving MORE MILES), increased road and registration taxes, and increased tolls...will kill many trucking companies that do business in the state of New York, the states north of New York...and the Canadian Provinces that are accessed through New York or the New England states that border Canada.

Yes, everything would be so much cheaper without those nasty profits. Take your employer for instance, there you are profiting at his expense. Next week, when you get your check, refuse it. That will help your employer because he won't be forced to pay for your profit margin. Until you are willing to do that, shut up about the profits of others.

I do enough for my company each week for free. I unload ,reload about 6 times for approx 15 hours no pay, I fuel 4 times a total 2 hours a week no pay. I sit in traffic for about 1.5 hrs per week no pay. So can bitch about that? lol?
CPM is a pay scam that most trucking company's use to get around paying overtime for excessive hours of work and other monitory issues.Get paid hourly and prevent sweat shop conditions.

i look at my duties at work as a whole. my job requires me to tarp, fuel, tiedown, pretrip, wait to load and unload. none of which are paid.
but at the end of the week, i get a nice paycheck.
some loads pay more, some less. i take the good with the bad.
in this day and age, im just happy to have a good paying job

Yes, drivers do a lot of work for free, and that is a legitimate complaint. For all it's worth, I am all for a person getting the best deal possible and maximizing their income, I sure do. But I get sick of people whining about company profits. Companies exist to make profits, just like employees work to earn a paycheck. Unless and until someone decides to donate all of their labor as an act of charity, they have absolutely no right, IMO, to complain about company profits. At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you are an employee, business owner, stock speculator, criminal or panhandler on the street, it's all about the money. It's high time we all took stock of that and realized were all in the same boat on that issue.

I do not "profit" from my employment. I exchange my labor at "fair value" with my employer. I work damned hard at this job, and do a lot of my work with no compensation whatsoever because I'm only paid by the miles I drive. To claim that I am making a profit on my own labor is to argue that my labor has no value whatsoever. Works for the IRS, perhaps, but not for what used to be Free People.
