Default how many wheels does an 18 wheeler have? I'm confused, man.

because I counted sixteen on one, and 22 on one with 2 traliers. so why are they called 18 wheelers?

Lol well I guess just the ones with 18 wheels are called 18 wheelers. Typically when you used to see a semi it was a truck and a trailer, the truck having three axle's and the trailer having two, adding up to 18 wheels. There are so many combinations out there that its mind boggling

Please tell me you are joking.

A standard class 8 vehicle has 18 wheels: 2 steer, 8 drive, and 8 trailer. If that same class 8 vehicle is running super singles, then there are 10 wheels: 2 steer, 4 drive, and 4 trailer. Of course, if that same class 8 vehicle is running super singles on only the tractor or only on the trailer, then it will have 14 wheels. If it is a single axle tractor, running tandem wheels, then it will have 14 wheels. If it is a single axle tractor running super singles, it will have 8 wheels. This can go on and on and on and on and on and on.

My count comes up different that everybody else: I start with the 5th wheel plus 2 steer and 8 drives. That is 15. Throw in the fly wheel and the steering wheel....that is 17. Now add in the 8 trailer wheels and that = 23. :?

Now you are counting those in the wrong order. You are supposed to count the fifth wheel fifth, so you have to count the two front wheels plus the fly wheel and the steering wheel for the first four. Next comes the fifth wheel as fifth, then continue with the rest.

If you don't count the fifth wheel in fifth place you are going to get a whole Abbott and Costello thing going on.

I got 14 wheels, 15 if I count the steering wheel. I have no 5th wheel, only a pintle hook so I must be special or something. 6 on the truck and 8 on the trailer.

    I dunno man...sometimes I have 18...but why stop there...yesterday I had 26 tomorrow I may have 30...and that's just the black & round ones

If I count the flywheel thingy & the 5th wheel does that mean I may have 32?
