What there was, was companies that figured out they could have greater coverage with more drivers. More dirvers spread over more area means quicker response and less dead head.

Mind you, that system also causes more drivers to sit idle as there is not enough freight to go around. But the companies don't care about that, afterall were talking about low life truck drivers.

Exactly!!! They didn't care at all until diesel fuel prices skyrocketed recently. The actual cost to these coolie outfits was very minimal. Diesel fuel was cheap. Driver is being paid NOTHING for hours or days of sitting/idling! Huh???

Why care if BBR stews at the truck stop for a few days for free? The only cost involved is diesel fuel, and possibly (although very unlikely) some meager layover stipend. Hell, I guess that I can't really blame these companies for operating this way as long as you guys are willing to work under these conditions.
