Or is it just me? I'm finding a lot of places that used to be full by 6pm still with spots at 10 or 11. Fewer trucks on the road maybe?

I'm willing to die to protect my Right to Bear Arms.
Are you willing to die to take them away from me?
Yeah, I've noticed it along with some people on other forums too. It's weird, one day the lot was full, the next it's half empty... hmm
i have noticed it .
a co-worker commented to me the other day that he had noticed it as well.
The Green Grass on the other side, still needs to be mowed
Well... Let's see... You've got WH out of Wausau, WI that has laid off 340 people, about 300 of them drivers because the rates for dry van freight has not kept up with fuel costs...
Jevic has closed their doors completely...
Chizek has shut down all operations...
I heard something about Schneider, but didn't catch it all...
Werner lost either 3 or 6 trucks in NE today... The drivers were looking all over the lot for their trucks, and it seems someone took them while the drivers... ALL FOREIGN... and moved them a couple of miles away and lit them on fire...
How many O/O have parked their trucks because of the fuel prices....
I wonder why there's so much room in the parking lots.

Speaking on stolen trucks, A CFI truck and trailer was stolen from the Petro in Ft. Worth. Another one was stolen last week but was recovered.
On the bright side, this means the problem of truck parking availability is fixing itself.
does seem to be alot more available later in the evening.
Anybody notice that truck traffic on weekend seems to be more than usual?
OURS IS NOT TO WONDER WHY
OURS IS BUT TO DO OR DIE.

In the north east, parking is still a problem after 5pm or so
My three favorite things about Pilot Truck Stops are; coffee, cups and lids.
I don't know when, but I was just told today. I called my brother and asked him if he'd heard about WH, and Jevic, and he informed me that Chizek is also shut down. Now, on occasion, I have been known to get the two mixed up, but not in the same sentence. He and I both pulled flatbed for WH 15 years ago, and better. From there, he went to J & R Schugel, and I went to ITC (sold to M. S. Carriers back in '98) I don't think either one of us ever believed that WH would park any of their trucks. Earl Schuette would never allow it, but I don't know if he's still alive. At any rate, he is the one that informed me that Chizek is out of the game too.Originally Posted by Rev.Vassago
Trucking companies shutting down due to fuel costs does concern me, but I'm even more concerned about the "NEXT PHASE". Farmers will not be able to afford to work their fields because of the cost of fuel, and they DO NOT GET A FUEL SURCHARGE. As they go bankrupt, and farms go idle, we're going to see even more problems.

Can you clarify what you mean by this, Windwalker?Originally Posted by Windwalker

Parking space is always available for me.
I just stick my magnetic "Swift Student Driver" signs on my doors, go to the end of the row nearest the building, turn on the four-ways and start backing up.
At least two or three trucks ALWAYS pull out.

at any rate, i've been to the flying j in north las vegas a few times within teh last few weeks. it's usually packed by 1700hrs. not the case as of late. last night and some nights ago, half of the blindside row was empty, some slots along the pull-through angled spots, and some others along the hotel fence line were also open.
a truck stop i've noticed that never really has any parking issues is the petro in wheeler ridge, california. you can go in there at any time of the day, night, or week, and find quite a few spots to pull through. i love going to that place.
I saw A Chizek Truck today.
I got it from a phone conversation with another driver who was in NE at the time. He was telling me that foreign drivers, working for Werner, were looking all over the lot for their trucks, and somewhere over the hill, there were fire engines, thick black smoke, and he was told that it was the missing Werner trucks. According to him, there were 6 guys, and since some of them run two in a truck, it may have been 3 trucks, or it may have been 6. I do not have a newspaper story or a link, but I can give you his phone number if you like. I was going to ask him just where in NE he was, but didn't get to do that because I ran out of signal. Haven't been able to get him back yet.Originally Posted by rodcannon

I have also noticed more available parking spaces, and I think it is due to the high cost of fuel. Owner Ops are hurting, and some are going out of business, thus the extra spaces.
Something HAS to be done about the high cost of fuel, and SOON! We all will pay the price for it in the goods we all have to buy.
I have also seen Chizek trucks on the road!
I suspect that some smaller companies will go under if the cost of fuel doesn't come down.
Things are not what they seem, but they are what they are
GO PACK
I saw one too, yesterday. But I also saw a WH the day before.Originally Posted by whatsmynameagain
