Default had an accident but it's not on my dmv record

So I was in an accident in September 2007 prior to getting my CDL (I just got my CDL this May). It was my fault. I side swiped a car when I was attempting to change lanes. The accident isn't showing up on my DMV report, though. A buddy of mine is a cop, and even though a police report was filed, I'm wondering if he did "something" so that the DMV wasn't notified. Not sure how that works or if that's even possible. But anyway - it's not on my record at this point.

If asked, should I not bother to put this accident on job applications since it's not showing up on my record?

If they check your motor vehicle records during the hiring process

and it does not appear then I doubt

they will ask you to produce documents and police reports

as to the accident you are saying you had.

    It would make no sense.

But then again what if it did appear at a later time then u could get in trouble
    and dismissed for false application.

You get a gold star, driver. That nails it, right there.

And to the original poster, Pepsi doesn't mess around, either. If you've got an app in with them, you better come clean with them and keep everything on the up and up.

I did list the accident on the Pepsi app and other jobs apps for that reason. It makes me nervous, even if it's not showing up on the DMV records. I guess I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I do have my CDL now.

I didn't get a ticket when the accident happened. If there was no ticket, it probably wouldn't show up on the record, right?

Still though - makes me nervous.

Whether or not it shows up on your DMV record will depend on your state. Some states list all accidents while others only show traffic convictions.

Your DMV record is not the only thing that some companies check though when doing their background checks. Some companies, and/or their insurance carriers, will run your info through an insurance database to see if you have been involved in any traffic accidents.

thanks - that's an excellent point.

Werner already turned me down because of the accident. Roehl is taking a look at the accident report right now. I also applied to Schneider - we'll see what they say.

Yes - there's a police accident report. They were there at the scene. Is that what you mean? I wasn't issued a ticket, however. Other than that accident, my license is clean and has been for many years.

I'm not sure if companies like Roehl or Schneider will even consider me.

Did it happen in a state other than one in which you reside now?

How many accidents have you had in your entire life of driving?

Seems odd that if you only had this one mishap that you are getting rejected.

I had an accident when I was in my early 20's, but I'm 39 now so I doubt that matters. No other violations. The only company that passed me over so far is Werner, but I don't think I wanted to go with them anyway. I'd love a local job, but it's obviously hard to come by. We'll see what Schneider or Roehl has to say. I also have a lead at Crossett. They require hazmat, and I finally got my endorsement today. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow.

I guess you skip the notification part when you got your CDL. New CDL drivers are required to fill out a certification of violations. Did you?

I don't recall filling it out but I certainly wouldn't skip it or lie about having an accident.
