Haha...that was pretty good...
Although, if you put the offending deer in a reefer turned down really low for awhile...would do wonders to improve his behavior.....

The deer are pretty bad in Michigan too. My girlfriend hit one in my car a couple weeks ago, tore up the right front, the hood, and now the right turn signal indicator stays on inside on the dash all the time. The damage really saddened me but it could have been a lot worse and at least nobody but the deer got hurt.
The indicator staying on all the time is a symptom of either a burned/blown bulb or a direct ground fault (short). Look at the wiring and bulbs in the area where the damage is for either or both of the two!Originally Posted by Cripplecreek

You are here and Bambi isn't . . everything worked out perfectly.
I hit my first deer after cresting Lolo Pass, MT. He stuck his head out just far enough to punch my right headlight backwards through it's housing . . with his antlers. It was dark and I stopped to make sure he wasn't in the road but couldn't find him. As far as I know, he made it home in time for Letterman.
My next encounter was in northern Idaho on the especially narrow and twisty US 95. A gang of them were crossing west to east when my truck forced them to quickly detour north, or else. I slowed down just enough and they sped up just enough so that I barely bumped one of them in the rear end before they made their getaway.
Remember this: If you swerve and crash or roll, it is extremely unlikely the deer will hang around to give a statement. It's best to hit them and preserve the evidence.

I wasn't even near home (deer central)! I was in northern Nebraska, where deer act like they think they're cows! Herds of the things were out--HERDS, I tell you!
Thanks for taking the sting out of this. I'm no longer shaking, and it feels good to know I'm not alone...and that it may not even be the last time I do it (now there's a comforting thought! )

The family didn't happen to be in VA on Rt. 17 south somewhere outside of Tappahannock, Va a little over a year ago?? I came thru that area and at least 3 were dead and scattered all over the place like a massacre. I couldn't avoid it all and straddled the center of the road to minimize the guts on the trailer as best I could.Originally Posted by cdreid
I have hit a gallon paint can of yellow paint that was rolling across the road. Didn't mix well with my red body. No animals yet in my truck but I have hit plenty of wildlife in my car.
TF, now that's right up my alley! I could just see it: me, out there trying to stencil the deer....when I look up and see headlights!!!
Nevermind! I think I'll pass on stenciling them. Just hope I don't hit too many more.![]()

you never repeat never hit a dear. they always hit you. even when they run right out in front, you still didn't hit the darn thing, it hit you, period.
just do it !!!!the shortest distance between two points is under construction.
almost hit three deer in one a month ago when i was jamming westbound along i-84, approximately 20 miles east of boise. if i had been going a couple miles an hour faster, those three would have had my name on them, and the truck would have been messed up pretty bad. it was about 0300 on a saturday, too. something about 3's on that day.
a year ago when i was going northbound on the ca-139 in tulelake, california. a tule elk came running in a south-east direction across the street. i must've missed it by a foot. it was a fully grown elk, too. man, that would have been a nasty mess.
did anybody go on us95 through idaho about 9 months ago? if so, did you see a dead bear in the northbound lane just north of new meadows? that one had my name on it. after hitting (and reporting) it, i drove the gimpy truck to grangeville where it finally couldn't go anymore.
I haven't hit a deer yet, though I've seen plenty, just lucky I guess. I nailed a striped kitty the other night on US 30 going to Idaho. Next morning, the receiver almost didn't let me back into the dock. Seems he had a forklift driver that's been coming in late and needed wake up aroma therapy. So I got unloaded real fast like.
One area I want to warn drivers of is I-84 from I-80 to Ogden. I ve counted as many as 50 dead deer there in a 1 mile stretch. I've seen a few elk and moose dead there too.
