    Default IsThere Help For US?

I have recently graduated trucking school and obtained a class "A" license with hazmat & tanker endorsements. My wife supported the two of us paying the bills while we went into dept with me traveling "60" miles daily to attend school. Now here's the problem. I have a felony conviction that's "8" yrs. old and most companies want you to have driving experience which you can't get unless you're hired. I've had no repeat of any crime, become a member of the music ministry at our church, and have an administrative position with a new company that is looking to generate revenue sometime this year. I've also driven straight and dump trucks over the years locally. we are looking forward to buying a home this summer but the trucking job is very important for us to get a mortgage. We have almost exhausted every avenue we could trying to get this job and can't afford legal help. My trucking school has also come up agaunst a brick wall trying to help us and I really want to get into the industry which i've trained for and my wife has supported me through. Please Help!!!

I find it interesting, yet all too common, that the trucking school that is supposedly trying to help you didn't bother to tell you how difficult it would be to get a truck driving job with a prior felony conviction before you paid them money to go to school there.

Your best bet would be to steer clear of any of the major carriers. Most won't even consider you.

you have an administrative job with a company that HOPES to be genereating revenue next year? sounds like maybe you make bad choices. damn the trucking school that took your money and did nothing to help you other than get your CDL. but did you not do any research into truck driving before you went to this school?

X2 on the above comments. The school should have educated you about having a record prior to taking your money.....but that is the past. Unfortunately, having a felony record will haunt you for some time to come. Depending on the severity of the offense, you may be able to get consideration from a trucking company. I found a site called www.everytruckingjob.com that lists a TON of companies that are in the industry. Each company has a phone number....so you might call each one and ask if they will work with you. Tedious work I know, but it might just work.

    BOL.

I think that's a nice way of him saying that he owns a small business, likely an at-home business.

Yes, you are right. The school should have alerted me of the upcoming problems with this situation. The school is located in Canonsburg, Pa. which is 30+ miles each way from Pittsburgh, Pa. and I attended faithfully. The school has also made recommendations and again each one was a turndown.Still, i am not about to let that aspect deter me from a promising career and the company that i'm associated wwith does not require any financial investment on my part. Just phone calls and stamps. I personally have known the owners since my teenage yrs.

I hate to rain on your parade, but it is nearly impossible to drive a truck with a felony. My cousin has a misdemeanor for simple battery and every company he applied with said no. Swift told him to check back in 5 yrs this was in 2000 and Nationwide out of Atlanta told him to get 1yr driving experience and they may hire him. Try to found a local gig I know its not OTR, but at least you are driving. My cousin took a job hauling wood chips locally and he loves it very much, he has been driving 8 years now. My pop has a trucking company and he will not hire someone with a felony and it is a small company(40 trucks).

Rather than playing 20 questions, what was the felony? It'd be a lot easier if we knew what you had hanging over your head.

On the CAD Home page click on Compare Companies. There is 32 that will take or consider someone with a felony under 10 years.

Try the link that I posted. They may hire you. They take students also. It's a good start.
