Does driving for a dumop truck company qualify as road experience? I haven't driven since the late 80's and am trying to get back in it. Everyone wants experience in the last 3 years. I don't want to go to school, so if I drive a dump truck or logging truck, would this qualify?

In a word, no. That is if you mean by road experience OTR experience. The only ones who would consider that as experience would be others in the same line of work.

Basically since you have not driven a tractor trailer for at least six months within the last three years you have no better status than a driver that just turned 21 and got their cdl yesterday, sorry. Most places do not count driving anything less than a tractor trailer as experience so working your way up isn't going to work either, sorry. You may find a small local company that will take you on, but I imagine you will need to attend truck driving school and take a job with a training carrier to get the experience.

Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
