I can retire from my present job with a federal law enforcement agency in five years, and am considering trying Trucking as a new career. I have a few questions.

    1. I have to bathe every day. How difficult and expensive is this on the road?

    Thanks!

And you call yourself a "Wannabee Trucker", HR2000 ??

Them showers in them thar truck stops are just for sissy, candyass posers!! If you want to become a REAL trucker, then leave your soap, deodorant, shampoo, razor, shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash at home!!
That's what I was afraid of.

Can,t you just carry a wee stick or something? Guns are a bit severe. We not like em over here
Sounds like trucking in England isn't the job for me.

What is it with truckers and guns? Seems to reinforce my paranoid trucker theory.

We can pretty much thank paranoid gun owners for 8-years of Dubya.

"He knew who I was, at that time, because I had a reputation as a writer. I knew he was part of the Bush dynasty. But he was nothing, he offered nothing, and he promised nothing. He had no humor. He was insignificant in every way and consequently I didn't pay much attention to him. But when he passed out in my bathtub, then I noticed him. I'd been in another room, talking to the bright people. I had to have him taken away." -on meeting George W Bush at Thompson's Super Bowl party in Houston in 1974

Really, why don't you cite this law? Don't even bother looking, there is no such federal law. In fact there is a federal law saying you can.

but almost every trucking company has a rule against carrying weapons in their trucks

And many shippers and recievers do not allow weapons on their property.
I am a big gun guy myself, but not in the truck. If someone wants the cargo enough to hijack me they can have it with no arguments from me.
