I did it. 35 years behind a desk and went straight from there to getting my CDL, truck, flatbed, authority then onto the road since November 19th of last year. Doing great.Originally Posted by Jamspeed
There are a few on this board who started without any experience. If you have plenty of money in the bank then you stand a better chance of making it work without any experience. The failure rate is high in this business. I would recommend you find a company driver for a year or two to gain some experience before you start spending your money. You DON'T want to start out without any money OR experience.
I guess you could say that I am taking "baby steps"....I was a company driver for only 6 months and I just bought my own truck and flatbed trailer. I will lease it to the company I am currently working for and then eventually venture out on my own authority.
If there is at least a couple of things I have learned from this website alone, it would be what GMAN just posted.......the failure rate can be high & definitely make sure you have money
Holy totally vague and completely inaccurate response, Batman!Originally Posted by SteveBooth
Why not point out some of the facts associated with how you started?
Maybe because he outlined his "adventure" in the following links already and it is all there for anyone who would care to look.Originally Posted by Vassago

Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.
Breakdowns can ruin you as an O/O just starting out. Not only do you lose money sitting on the side of the road, you have to pay for the tow truck is needed, along with the parts and labor if you can't fix it yourself. Don't think a new truck will solve that, it's still a truck and will break on you.
I didn't see those links, or any mention of those links, in his response. They must have been magical and invisible.Originally Posted by Uturn2001
Thankfully Mr. Mom brought out the links....Originally Posted by Rev.Vassago

How long ya'll gonna let these 2 hijack other peoples threads with attacks on SB???
Many of us out here are getting pretty fed up with it.
you know what dig diesel and rev, it has been fourteen months and Steve is still going strong. It tees you of to no end, that he is still out on the road and doing something you can not, make a living on his own with out some one him telling what to do. Well done Steve, carry on the way you are the worst is over. Rev and diesel you prove to me you can even drive a truck because what I have seen of your posts I very much doubt it, especially when it comes to setting a fifth wheel, rev something you should have leaned in trucking 101, your behaviour is bordering on harassment! when you change a man's post just so you can pick on him that is low. I mean low, take a close look rev at what you did to the .80cents a mile thing, if that is not harassment, tell me what is, as far as I am concerned you are small minded jealous kids.
