Having driven up that route on vacation in our van, I didn"t see any trucks on it and assumed trucks did not use it, but wow I can't imagine the work it takes to do it. I also remember that guys on "crotch-rockets" just come screaming up out of nowhere pushing the limits on every corner. A friend told me that at least one cyclist a week gets killed on it.

Being a motorcyclist and someone that has relatives that lives near Deal's Gap, I can tell you that your friend is wrong about that. There are numerous wrecks the majority of which are minor, but very few deaths. In 2007, there were 3 deaths, all within 2 days of each other. They occurred early in the riding season. Tennessee stepped up enforcement to ridiculous levels for the remainder of the season keeping incidents to a minimum.

More people died at Daytona Bike Week in 7 days than all year at Deal's Gap. Facts is facts.

As far as trucking it is concerned, best to stay away. It's risky on it's best day and very stressful for drivers I have seen attempting it. Most times, one of the reckless, inconsiderate "crotch-rockets" will run front door for you to warn oncoming traffic as to your presence...but don't count on it.

also one of the wrecks was a double fatality, an older couple on a trike goldwing flipped over and went under a boat. The other death i think was rocket related. It is a blast running the dragon on 2 wheels, but i couldn't imagine the stress of winding up on that road with 18 wheels trying to get turned around. also try www.killboy.com and www.zeefoto.com for some really good dragon pictures. They used to have some good ones of trucks halfway through the dragon.

Just wanted to give my fellow truckers a heads up.

I have driven the tail in a sports car. Cannot imagine driving it in a semi.
If dogs don't go to heaven, when I die I want to go wherever they go.
