    Default do you need a tensioner on straight cables (vs.chains)

    is a tensioner necessary on straight cables. i believe on chains you need it and diag cables but wasn't sure about the straight cables.

    Nope. Cable length is adjustable so no need for tensioners. Besides, cables belong in the chain box anyway along with chains. If it's bad enough to need chains then you shouldn't be on the road IMO. Chain to get OUT of trouble, not into it.
