    Default Dormant CDL

I plan on retiring from the auto industry on Jan. 1st 2009 and moving out west and driving. I want to utilize my TAP while I'm still an actve employe. I don't want to get my CDL to early and just sit on it. I could go to school now for 5 weeks and get my CDL now, but folks have said wait.

My question is if I'm not going to use my CDL until 1/09, when next year would be a good time to start my CDL training?

Most companies that take new drivers want them to have their schooling within a certain time period - usually 6 months or under. You may want to call a few different recruiters to see what they say.

While it varies from company to company, 30 days after graduating from CDL school employment options start to vanish.

Best thing to do is figure out which companies you are interested in driving for and talk to them about this.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.
