Who makes an above average and reliable CB that is between the 100-150 buck range?
Uniden PC 68 or PC 78
Cobra 25 or 29 with out Soundtracker feature.

Cobra
My Uniden 68 would pull a 11 mile range with the factory antennas. It was only $75.
"Professional stake killer with ability to operate heavy equipment"
Silly qustion, but whats Soundtracker?
I have a cobra 29 with a wilson 1000 and a few more "gadgets on it" I can talk from southeast Texas to mid Louisiana on it.
It is something Cobra came out. It is kind of like an automatic squelch. In my experience all it does, even when switched off, is limit the reception performance of the radio.Originally Posted by Redlight
I had 2 of the 29's with Soundtracker and I never could pick up another truck more than 1/4-1/2 mile even with it switched off and the squelched turned all the way down (or up) where I should have been able to hear anything within at least 5 miles.
I got rid of the 29 ST and put in a Uniden 78 and I could send and recieve for miles with the same antennas and coax.
I have talked to many drivers who had the same experience. Some bought the Uniden radios and others bought a 25 or 29 classic and the problem disappeared.

It is junk.... I know. I screwed up and bought one. Got rid of it, and started using my "old"....8 year old Uniden again. Works 100% better.Originally Posted by Mackman

The Uniden 68 is a nice radio. http://www.cbcity.com/shop/?shop=1&c...76&itemid=1301 Whatever you buy though, be sure and have the antenna's tuned by a pro. That is what really makes the difference, and how to increase range. Some places, like the one in that link above pre-tune and peak the radios for you, and that also helps.
We used to run sideband back in the 70's, and on flat ground 25 miles was not a problem and much more at night. The audio sounds kind of weird, but if you wanted privacy and range, you had little choice back then in the pre-cell phone days.
I keep my Soundtracker turned off and squelch off, don't get any fuzz or white noise, can pickup radios 30+ miles away. Soundtracker IS crap, it also dulls the sound some. I get out at least 10 miles.
Thanks!
Would that happen to be that little one on 202? That guy knows his stuff.Originally Posted by Mackman
