I like my job. For the most part, it's a good one! The only silly thing is, all the big time corporate stuff you have to put up with. Other than that, our little warehouse in Lubbock, and the supervisors we have, it sometimes feels like we work for a bunch of hillbillies. :P

I run linehaul for Watson SYSCO Food Services in Lubbock, TX. (SYSCO merged with Watson Foods a few years back) I drive a 400 mile round trip, 5 nights a week. (Sun night through Thurs night) I work an average, 9-10 hours a night. Some nights, I may have to go down to Abilene (from Lubbock) and drop a single at their yard. That puts about another 120 or so miles more, and it's about a 12 hour night. I run in west Texas, and if yall havent driven that lovely drive on HWY 82, well, yall aint missin nothin. :P Lots of open range, a whole lot of nothing! Pretty country, especially, in the Caprock. I like seeing all the wild animals that wait for us on the highway. :P

One thing I really like about my job, is working at night. Dont have to worry about customers, etc.. I very seldom see any supervisors, except the night time warehouse supervisors. I might talk to a driver supervisor, once a month. They have a schedule every night in the drivers room, for the next night's run. It very seldom changes, so I just go by what's on the schedule. My trailers are normally scheduled out at 9:00 every night. (I leave out of Wichita Falls around 4:30-5:00)

I cant really complain. I am also thankful for the insurance, benefits, etc..

This may sound corny, but I really do like my job and here is why. I wanted to drive a truck since I was in Junior High. I remember watching the TV show Movin On and thinking what a great job those guys have. Well 25 years later I was finally in a position that I could follow my dream. A down turn in defense spending, turned out to be a gift rather than a burden. I figured if my income was going to go down, I may as well do something I have always wanted to do. I found this website, did my research and decided to do local work. I have a much better relationship with my wife now. I seldom come home all grumpy from work and that has strengthed our relationship. I have learned to manage money better since I have less of it now. And the company I work for Double Eagle Transportation has treated me well, offers great benefits, good pay and has top knotch people from top to bottom. The owner has a real open door policy and is always there for the drivers. I haul bulk cement and right now we are hauling into Edwards AFB for a runway job. Today while unloading I got to see F-16s going vertical and the YF-22 flying while I was unloading. If the shuttle had been diverted today, I would have been able to see the landing up close, luckily for the families of the shuttle crew they came home safe as planned and where planned. So yeah, I like my job.

probrably not wise to say you enjoy your job as truckers on a public forum, the politicians may get wind of this and do anything they can to make you miserable..

LMAO! This brings back old memories. My god how many times ive heard drivers say this. Also seems like every other driver claims to be a "former cop" or "navy seal".Gotta love em',especially with the stained grey sweat pants, from last nights buffet.Or the red suspenders!Good times..Good times...

Whenever I get disappointed in my driving job (which is rare), I just make myself remember how absolutely horrible my life was when I had a "normal" job (computer programmer).

I have loved my job at times (linehaul), and usually just like it.

If this were my very first job ever, I'd probably bre looking for a different job, but since I know the alternatives, at this point in my life, I like my job.

It's all relative. Plus, I am much better at working alone than in a group.

Trucked for 8 years. Mostly liked it.

Managed people for about three years. Got sick of it real fast...this sense of entitlement the public in general has nowadays gets old fast.

Back to trucking now. While I may not LOVE it all the time, I certainly appreciate the things about it I like versus the things in the working world I don't.

But I still like to drive and see the sights. In that way, I'm still a kid at heart.

I hate otr. I miss working in a factory. Working with people the great benefits, like pension, overtime, stat holidays, 4 weeks vacation, sick pay, paid 15 coffee breaks. I miss being Home at night, bowling, golfing, camping, beach, biking, walking, family-life were all gone when I accepted an otr job.

What is stopping you from returning to a factory position? What made you get into trucking, let alone OTR?

don't brag too much, they may change the way they pay you... Mexican trucking companies will becoming by the millions after the pilot project is complete next fall and you may find your self getting paid by the mile.

After over two decades doing this work.... I have to admit... I do like it.

After running 48 states, Canada, and Alaska for soooo many years, I now have a regional job in the Upper Midwest, average over 3K miles a week, and occasionally finish out new drivers.

By the house two or more times a week and off on the weekends. And I get .38 a mile (.48 when I train), $600 average bonus every quarter, good benefits, and 4 weeks vacation a year. Great travel agent (who is a real cute girl with a lot of savvy and brains) who keeps me loaded up and gets me home EVERY time I need to get to a dentist or doctor appt and family events. Most of my loads are drop and hook dry box and less than 30K lb. Not the prettiest equipment at the truck stop, but it runs good and is well maintained. Great shop techs who listen and fix the problems.

Been with them (Mike Brooks, Inc) since '99. Not planning on leaving anytime soon. I hope others can end up with a carrier that treats them as good. How many carriers, when a close family member dies, gives you over $500 tax free, a week off, sends flowers, and still asks if you need any assistance like I got.

Those carriers are out there. You have to search around and ask a lot of drivers, but it is worth the effort if a person plans on making a career of driving. I can pretty well guarantee you that you will not find this atmosphere in a big national carrier. Look for carriers that are in specialized freight or have very specialized accounts. They are usually the ones that treat you well.

I liked trucking, worked for Roehl.
Stepped out of the truck for family issues.
Now it is time to get back out there.
Second interview with the same company this week.
I will see you out there.
My three favorite things about Pilot Truck Stops are; coffee, cups and lids.

I like what I do. I am home everyday and dont have to deal with truckstops. I enjoyed being over the road but I enjoyed more sleeping in my bed everyday and not dealing with all the scumbags out there in the stops.

I havent been in a truckstop except once or twice over the past 9 months.
If you are not sure you should do it, then don't!

Really enjoy Truck Driving. Could say I love it.
I dont mean this to say that I love my job.
I need challenges and get bored easily so I often change jobs for a break from the routine. Have done nearly any type of trucking since I started in 1992, but still a few things to try.
I have yet to go Bull Hauling for example but have that on my list as soon as I find the right person to work for.
Currently working locally as OTR is just beyond boring for me, I need more activity each day than OTR provides.
I have a restless spirit and Trucking seems to suit it well.
