What company are you going with? I can't believe there is a company out there that would give a new driver his own truck after less than a month of training.

Are you willing to die to take them away from me?

4 1/2 weeks of school then 3 weeks training with a trainer about 2 months before I get my own truck.CFI only takes students from real schools.Central Tech is one of the best CDL training schools out there.Plus I will be learning on company supplied trucks so I will be training on the same trucks I will be driving when I go solo.Better then the other companies where u get your CDL in 2 weeks.

Um Bouncer, can I let you in on a couple things that maybe your not aware of? At Central Tech, they only have 2 Kenworths that the CFI people train on, the rest are Freights and Internationals. The Kenworths have 13's, the others don't. No big deal, they all grind the same! Now when you get to orientation at CFI, you'll be tested in a T-2000, not a
T-600, like at school. No big deal, they all grind the same! OK, ya with me so far? Now lets say you graduate, go to CFI and you GET HIRED
then you go out with a trainer. He or she may have a T-2000 or a T-600 or who knows what. You have to put in 7500 miles, right. Lets say frieght slows down, it's been known to happen that time of year, and you have to spend more time on a trainer's truck than you expected, now what? Now you go out on your own, you got your very own "Red Racer"! It's going to drive different, run different, feel different and shift different! But one thing for sure, it WILL GRIND the SAME!!

    Good Luck to ya!!

Like I said I can't believe there is a company out there that will give a driver his own truck after just 3 weeks of training! Those four and a half weeks at school don't count for sh*t. Crete makes you stay with a trainer for 8 weeks after getting out of school. Most companies are at least 6 weeks. 3 weeks isn't even enough time to learn how to start a truck much less learn how to keep from killing yourself, and more importantly, others.

As evidenced by all those CFI drivers killing people and themselves, right?
Reading this blog will make you smarter and/or more attractive.

That amazes me, people think that you can't go to schol, train for a period of time and yet drive without having an accident. Driving a truck is about being careful. Don't exceed your limitations and stay within your comfort zone. There's nothing magical about it. It's just not that hard.

I guess some people found it hard and think everyone should. I personally didn't.

7500 miles driving with a trainer sure sounds like learning with me.Compared to some of the BS schooling other companies do CFI is rated 1 of the best out there.

By who's rating? CFI'S? I work there but I don't by any means rate them number 1, especially with a little over 1 year of experience. I also agree with fist that training 3 weeks seems to work for most people. an extra week or so would not hurt but you don't see a lot of CFI trucks flipped over on it's side much as compared to some other companies. But then again the other companies have more trucks on the road than CFI does too!

And the other companies send there drivers to CDL mills.Point of the post was about me going to school and you turn it around into a I can't believe a company would give you a truck after 3 weeks.Do you drive a Truck if you did you would know most companies send you with a trainer for 2 to 4 weeks then you get your own truck.I don't care if I am with a trainer for 6 weeks just happy to get on the road.

Calm down bouncer, I don't know why the guy was slamming our training. I went to a mill not paid for by CFI and still drive at CFI. My wife went to Central Tech and is here at CFI. The only truck school I have the utmost respect for is Crowder College. I just think they are the best! But it doesn't matter. It is what you learn! YOU! It is how YOU drive. You will here this said again and again. Don't let someone else drive your truck. Be happy you are going. I was too. I could not stand the wait before I went!

Saying they are rated the best and all of that is just keeping the argument going. Those ratings don't amount for anything if you can't drive. You have a plan and you seem well prepared. Go out there and show us you can drive a big truck. After you graduate, let us know how you did it and how happy you are then. Just don't think after school you will stop learning out here. I learn something new all the time. And so will you! Good luck and we should see you in a red truck in about 8 weeks! And like JimJim said, happy grinding!

I'll reply one more time then I'll keep my mouth shut. They industry avg is 6 weeks. You can believe that or not, I don't care. I just hope I don't read about you having an accident in the next six months or so. I have been driving for over 13 years and 3 weeks is not enough. Particularly with winter coming on. I am not slamming CFI's training in particular, I would slam any company who thinks 3 weeks is adequate. But I guess those of you who have been driving for all of 2 years or less think yourselves as something of an expert so who am I to argue? Done.

Your right world, some people do need more time and all we have to do is call and normally we can get a week pretty easy. Again, it's all in how you present the case.

But let me say, this stuff comes naturally to some and they are right at home with the "truck driving" job as we know it.
