Well, that officer can kiss my butt! Do I have his instructions on my qualcom for backup? If he wants to get out of his car, stand in the intersection to block traffic that may appear out of nowhere, and support my family forever if he gets me killed, I MIGHT do what he says! Otherwise, the EXCEPTIONS to the laws will support my decision NOT to operate my vehicle in an UNSAFE manner, RISKING MY LIFE! If, as all the discussions so far indicate, it is SO EASY for him to go AROUND a stopped vehicle, HE can go around me and run the redlight! I'm not budging if I don't feel it is SAFE! (I WOULD, however, "eek" my way over a bit to let him through!)

NO officer of the law can FORCE me to break a law![/code]
Usually the proper procedure is to oppose traffic or shut down the lights and siren until the light is green. But I would NEVER force anyone into the intersection. If an idiot decided to do so on thier own free will, well then that's on them. Luckily, most of the time, you can scan ahead and see if an intersection is blocked by traffic and a red light and then oppose traffic.

Looking at the map it looks like to me had you stopped the LE officer could have past at that point. Had you waited till after the curve and stopped he would have no problem passing you.

I see several of places he would have been able to pass if you had only stopped.

It makes no difference if there was or was not a shoulder or if you were taking up the whole lane. What you did was force him to take additional risk by requiring him to pass while you were still in motion.

One additional point I am quite sure he was aware you had a HazMat load so he would have known the hazard. And as another poster (bouncer I think) said if he didn't think it was safe to go around you he would have got on the PA and told you to pull forward.

Anyway I do think you were lucky by only getting a butt chewing. At least now you know what to do the next time if it ever happen again.

Six pages over this? Im jelouse, I need to get into diffrent reading for diffrent debate's.
On the edge of sleep, I heard voices behind the door
The known and the nameless, familiar and faceless
My angels and my demons at war'

    At war...

'Which one will lose depends on what I choose
Or maybe which voice I ignore...'

    Wilderness of mirrors
    Streets of cold desire
    My precious sense of honor
Just a shield of rusty wire
    I hold against the chaos
And the cross of holy fire

    Wilderness of mirrors
    So easy to deceive
    My precious sense of rightness
    Is sometimes so naive
    So that which I imagine
    Is that which I believe

Some people just can't wrap their mind around something so simple.

I lost a HUGE, and very well composed post in response to KC's last (to me) due to this INCESSANT problem with "invalid session" and I don't know if I care to try to recreate it or not!

I'm not sure if I care to respond to the latest info (picture post) or not, for the same reason!

All I can say for now is, only the most stupid of troopers would tail a CMV doing no more than 15 mph for nearly TWO miles before passing! Whether he stopped or NOT!

I saw at least SIX places where "I" could have passed him on a friggin BICYCLE!!

And I see at least NINE different places where there isn't a curve, and he could have stopped.
