Default question about various companies' pet policies

    As the title says.
I am curious to those out there, if there is any company that allows a company driver have 2 big dogs in the truck with him. Specifically, a husky and a german shepherd. I doubt a company driver is allowed more than one dog, but I want to know if there is any company out there that is halfway decent. Thanks

if you do find one which I doubt, you have to think about other things, like breakdowns and layovers, you will have a real hard time getting a motel to take them. I used to take my Shepard/ Husky with me when I had my own truck a hundred years ago and it was a real problem if I had to stay in a motel

If you want two big dogs, you need to buy your own truck. I don't know of any company that will allow this.

It's my opinion that unless you own your truck out right pets do not belong in the truck , And I make that statement after seeing tons of company trucks just trashed by pets ...Heck a majority of drivers can barely keep themselves and the truck neat and clean let alone keep up after a pet .

ALl of the companies that I know of that allow pets it is one pet only, and many also have size limits too.

CFI-CON currently offers one pet for one driver which would mean up to two. I do believe that now that the merger has taken place they may remove this option. Also they are considering drivers with pets not to be eligible for the across the board 1 cent raise. Nothing has happened but this is the rumor. When I was solo I had my Black Lab and he got depressed and sad looking so I had to take him to my fathers. When my wife joined she brought our jACK RUSSEL. He is perfect size on the truck and also gives us an extra reason to get out and walk around.

I would not ever have a big dog on the truck. It is mean. You should of seen how sad my Lab is. Made me feel like a poor owner. now he is happy again with my Dad!

Schneider has a no pet policy in company trucks. Which is fine with me.

Default Think long and hard about this!

I know of none that will let you take 2, and if you manage to find one, I'll tell you you've got to be out of your mind to think it will be a happy arrangement for you or your dogs. I speak from my own experience of taking my yellow lab with me. I had him for 11 yrs before getting into trucking, so I didn't pick him with this in mind. He's 60 lbs(small for a lab!) and loved to ride, or so he thought. He does love to ride, it's the living in a box 24/7 for weeks at a time that sucks. Try to find a nice clean place for him to walk or do his "business" at a big truck stop, which is where you wind up for most of your off hrs., then clean his feet every time so he doesn't get the truck all **** ( it's going to have a layer of hair no matter what). He was as good as any dog could be in that situation, but it got to me after a while. It just kind of broke my heart to see him living in a truck seat day after day instead of rolling in the grass and sniffing around the woods like he should be. It was worth trying I guess, but I've put the OTR gig on hold until he passes on in a couple yrs. He's 12 now and has some issues so I didn't want him to spend his "golden yrs" like that. It kind of sucks for me because I could put up with the B.S. of trucking, it kind of fit me I guess, but he didn't sign up for that crap.
PS I drove with Covenant for 6 months and their policy was :1 dog, up to 100 lbs, $500 dep.,$25 a week until paid (but it's a "non-refundable deposit" which makes it a "fee" as far as I'm concerned, but deposit sounds better I guess. Bottom line, you're not getting it back!) I checked with Melton Truck lines because they advertise in a local paper weekly and their policy was similar except $750 deposit, $250 a wk for 3 wks.!!! You didn't need to eat did ya??? You'll have enough for dog food, maybe, ha ha!!!

Probably previously mentioned but most companies dont allow pets because they switch trucks and give the older trucks to the newbs and there isnt a vacuum in the world that can get the stench and hair out of the fabric of the seats, etc. Add to that allergies to animal hair.

Personally I hate dogs, and dont want their hair in the truck long after they are gone.

I/C's can do what they want. Of course, everyone who has a pet, has a clean, sterile animal free of shedding hair and it never takes a dump or pees anywhere.....

Actually there are several vacs, many of them quite portable, that will take up dog hair with very little effort.

As far as the "stench" goes, I would rather smell dog than what gets left behind after some drivers have been in a truck for even a short time.....ie BAD BODY ODOR from bathing once a year if they need it or not.

Any way I used to have a dog with me and when I vacated a truck the next driver would be VERY hard pressed to know that there was ever an animal in there.

I can say from experience though, that it takes a lot of extra work to maintain the inside of the truck when you have a dog, and even the breeds that don't shed will shed quite a bit in a truck environment. It seems the fur just vibrates off of them, and if you have one that normally sheds then in one day your truck will look like it snowed dog fur.

On top of all this, more and more factories and warehouses are not allowing animals on their property and many that do will not allow the dog out of the truck and it can get very uncomfortable for the dog to have to stay in a truck for hours while you wait for the idiot in on the dock to remember how to count to six because he gets lost when he has to go to the other hand.

Just something to keep in mind.

Now unlike some I am not against drivers having a pet on the truck with them. They can certainly help with the lonliness that can set in at times. I just want those who are thinking about it to realize what they are getting into and that they may run into problems.

One more thing. If you do take a dog with you, do yourself, your dog, and everyone else a big favor and put it on a leash when you let it out of the truck. More than once I have seen a dog run over in truck stops and rest areas when they were allowed to run free.

There are much, much worse smells that people produce that can stink worse than a dog. The smell of smoke is much worse and really hard to remove from cloth than the smell of dog. And a husky barely sheds, but 2x a year they get rid of their fur coat in favor for their winter coat, and then again in favor for their summer coat. And dog hair (as well as cat hair) isn't that hard to remove from cloth.

All Dogs shed, and some people have severe allergies to the dander and hair, not to mention the fleas.

I've seen more filth from drivers than pets. It doesnt mean I have to have both in the truck.

Either keep your stupid pets at home, put 'em up for adoption or put 'em to sleep.

Default many companies not allowing pets lately

many companies are tired of cleaning a truck after a pet so they are doing away with pets in their trucks, ex:JB Hunt. then you have some like Werner who will allow anything.
