I have spoken to guys who were literly pissing on the tractor tires as they were turning in there keys ,but were sporting Werner brand clothing...

You get the same thing at other companies like Swift, Schneider, etc. Never really understood it myself. I could see it if they were like 5 year or 10 year employees and it was things accumulated over time, but I imagine the ones you are talking about are ones who have been there 90 days or something like that.

Maybe the newbies think that if they get all decked out in company apparel that they will get all the good loads, tons of legal miles, and have their fleet managers wrapped around their glad hands.

I never spent much money on company apparel. The most was $20 when I was with Swift and that was only because I was able to grab up 7 polo shirts for that and I was needing some shirts anyway.

That was in 99 and I still have 6 of them. Love to wear them when painting, changing the oil on the family cars, etc.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

My first year I didn't make enough money to buy company shirts. Now that my wife and I are a team we bought some. A week later our company got bought out by Con Way. We only bought them because we don't go home much and I had been wearing the shirt from my previous employer. I worked for a cable company. I got tired of going into a shipper and them asking me if I was there to fix there cable. Once I said yes as a joke and the gentleman showed me to the tv room. He didn't think it was funny when I told him I was kidding. We only bought a couple of shirts each though because we aren't fans of our company either. But the cable thing had to go.

well, i worked for swift at the time, since they were company shirts and i wore them only for work i just wrote them off on my taxes. Mabe a law aganst it but at the time that was my logic behind it. also, since it had my name and company, it just looked a little more prof.

I don't understand why anyone would stay with a company that they didn't like, much less wear their clothing. :?

the main reason GMAN is to to get my wife her first year so we will both have enough experience to get a better job with a better company instead of making a parallel move to another first year company.

    Hey World
I get the impression that many companies have changed the 1 yr requirement for experience down to about 6 months any more due to the need for drivers lately. Heck, some are saying 3-4 months.

a lot of the "first year" companies have but the companies we are really wanting to go to are 1 year at least. We are in a bit of a dilemma. We really want to leave and have the options of Interstate and a couple of others but I am really adamant about getting your first year at one company, this time for my wife. I also want her to go through a winter before we jump. But on a weekly, sometimes daily basis I find that my patience is running very thin with my current company.

I can understand that. Kinda glad I pulled the plug on our plans for there.
We have a couple of others options we are considering, but as I said, pretty much planning on IDC at the moment.
It should be "fun" starting our driving in the winter,,,oooooh boy!
How long has she been driving?

That Cable Guy joke was funny. Im still laughing. Glad your in here posting. I miss your sense of humor over at the "other" place.
Don't mirror drive... The past is the past. You will get through the next 6 months no problem. It's not your fault that theres no lifeguard at the nite and weekend dispatcher gene pool. Just break the mold whenever possible and try to work with the people who have a clue. Take time to park and decompress when you need to. You can't fix stupid.

The little things like no fridge or curtains is kinda dumb but can be fixed with a cooler and curtain rod. The puppy tax is pure BS because some drivers smell worse, burn interiors with cigs and stain everything that is stainable.. Maybe the dog whisperer can train some of the decision makers over there ??

I guess the idea of looking professional when wanting to be treated as a professional is lost on some folks.

I looked professional. I just looked like a professional cable guy instead of a professional driver. That has to count for something.

Oh yes those drivers sporting there Company logo clothing consisting of "SWEAT PANTS" poorly fitted T-shirts an sweatshirts , And a BALL CAP ....Alll usually stained and many times un-laundered just SMACK of "PROFESSIONALISM" . But hey when a Werner driver is dressed up like this it makes it easier for the responding law enforcement officals to spot the at fault driver just by profiling .

And the idea of exprssing basic common sense is lost on some folks

Easy to spot the offender, now that is funny.

The driver school I am attending they said on first day to dress in a professional manner. Sadly it includes sweat pants, what I like to refer to as clown pants (size 50 inch waist pants on a 30 inch waist kid worn around the butt cheeks with underwear sticking out the top), and a plain white t shirt 5 sizes too big not tucked in.

I agree on the sweats thing. They are generally worn by lazyassed drivers to stupid to operate a zipper or a button.

I spend about $200 per year on company clothing. For that, I can get about 15 button up short sleeve dress shirts.

Then again, my company also gives me a $200 clothing allowance each year. Go figure.

Sure seems to be a bias against sweat pants here. I've been driving for 15 years, and wore sweats the last 11. Why? I drive local construction. I found that sweats were more comfortable than jeans. I also found that I would rather ruin a $10-15 pair of sweats than a $45-60 pair of jeans. Just makes cents to me, but I guess you otr guys have more money to burn on being a fashion model than I do.
