Default What should i take with me while with my mentor?

What things would you suggest taking (and not taking) while on the road with my mentor for 6 weeks?

Chances of hometime during these 6 weeks are unlikely. So anyone have any suggestions?

2 weeks of clothes. Mix of summer and winter and 3 weeks of socks
sleeping bag and a top sheet
    pillow
    cloth laundry bag
small duffel bag to use for a shower bag
hygiene products (soap, deodorant, baby wipes, etc)
2 month supply of any prescription meds
    black ink pens
    white out
    work boots (go with insulated)
    comfortable shoes
    rain coat/jacket
    liquid laundry soap
Coveralls if training flatbed or tanker
DL, SSI Card, Passport (if you have one, if not apply for one)
    copy of birth certificate
2-3 books or other form of easy to carry entertainment
MC atlas if you have it already, if not pick one up at a truck stop while you are out with trainer
    dual powered calculator
    $100 cash
ATM or debit card....highly recommend the latter.
    Small notebook/notepad
Folder to keep all important papers together.
    2, 6 inch rulers
2 pair of work gloves. Do not have to be high end, but jersey gloves won't cut it either.
1-2 pair of jersey gloves to use as liners for work gloves when it gets cold.
    safety glasses
Extra pair of glasses if you wear glasses or contacts.
sunglasses unless you wear glasses that change in light.

    For orientation
All work information (be prepared to fill out application again and be able to verify any unemployment periods)
Letters from doctors if on any type of medications stating what you are taking and that they do not pose a safety hazard of you driving while on them.
Folder to keep all important papers together. (just need one but I put it into two places)
SSI card, CDL, certificate of completion from CDL school.
Voided blank check or deposit slip for signing up for direct deposit.

Do not worry about tools, CB's, coolers, etc until you get your own truck.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Except for one poster, you guys are squat when it comes to being helpful.

Disregard the previous IGNORANT posts about rubbers and such, obviously these are fantasies on the part of the poster.

Remember you'll be sharing a truck with another person so dont bring alot of useless junk like videogames, coolers and other assorted non-essential items. Chances are you'll trainer will have these items on board the truck.

Bring only the essentials, such as clothes, hygiene related items, and any related reading materials.

Once you get your own truck you can put as much useless stuff in it as you want but for now, you need to concentrate on learning the trade and even if it is for 6 weeks, it will go buy quick.

Inmate and Uturn Thanks for the help! The rest of you really need to get a life...

I'm sure you were all new at one point too, and had to "earn your wings" one way or another. The way i see it, it's their litter box i'll play by their rules. Once i'm a Vet, then i can get picky about where when who what and how.

I'm excited about this, and obviousley there is a reason for the six weeks.

Thanks to you guys who were helpful.... the rest of you

Didn't mean to sound like a smart-ass, just meant that after a couple days you will talk to each other so much, about everything under the sun, that you won't be strangers after the first week, that's all.

As far as things to take, your clothes, enuf for a couple weeks, you can do laundry on the road. Take bedding, a bag big enuf for a change of clothes, your soap and shave stuff, to take in when you shower. A rain suit or jacket if your going flatbed, gloves, boots, a pair of comfy shoes, shower shoes, fall is here, might need a decent coat. You should get writing stuff at orientation, a log book or two, some cash for the expected and the un-expected. Don't forget your cell phone and a book with the numbers in it that you can never remember! I used earplugs the time I went out, he snored!! And most important, take a sense of humor!! 8) You'll need it!

    Good luck!
