What things would you suggest taking (and not taking) while on the road with my mentor for 6 weeks?
Chances of hometime during these 6 weeks are unlikely. So anyone have any suggestions?

Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.
six weeks in a truck with a total stranger?!
my goodness
 After the first week, you won't be strangers to each other!

What did the company tell you to take? BOL
Rubbers, for when he gets friendly with you

Except for one poster, you guys are squat when it comes to being helpful.
Disregard the previous IGNORANT posts about rubbers and such, obviously these are fantasies on the part of the poster.
Remember you'll be sharing a truck with another person so dont bring alot of useless junk like videogames, coolers and other assorted non-essential items. Chances are you'll trainer will have these items on board the truck.
Bring only the essentials, such as clothes, hygiene related items, and any related reading materials.
Once you get your own truck you can put as much useless stuff in it as you want but for now, you need to concentrate on learning the trade and even if it is for 6 weeks, it will go buy quick.
Everything I need to know about driving a truck I learned from watching "DUEL"
Inmate and Uturn Thanks for the help! The rest of you really need to get a life...
I'm sure you were all new at one point too, and had to "earn your wings" one way or another. The way i see it, it's their litter box i'll play by their rules. Once i'm a Vet, then i can get picky about where when who what and how.
I'm excited about this, and obviousley there is a reason for the six weeks.
Thanks to you guys who were helpful.... the rest of you![]()
Didn't mean to sound like a smart-ass, just meant that after a couple days you will talk to each other so much, about everything under the sun, that you won't be strangers after the first week, that's all.
As far as things to take, your clothes, enuf for a couple weeks, you can do laundry on the road. Take bedding, a bag big enuf for a change of clothes, your soap and shave stuff, to take in when you shower. A rain suit or jacket if your going flatbed, gloves, boots, a pair of comfy shoes, shower shoes, fall is here, might need a decent coat. You should get writing stuff at orientation, a log book or two, some cash for the expected and the un-expected. Don't forget your cell phone and a book with the numbers in it that you can never remember! I used earplugs the time I went out, he snored!!And most important, take a sense of humor!! 8) You'll need it!
Good luck!
