    Default Not rehireable

After a month of applying for a job,i found out i wasn't very desireable due to not enough experience..i already have cdl-ax but without exp i would have to hire back on for company sponsored training, which makes me owe them and have to take alot more crap then if i paid for it out right..
I'm going to pay for training out of pocket and doing this i will get refreshed and be back where i was when i drove for schneirder. Also i might get this covered by my state (mich)for no worker left behind program..i go to orientation for this sept 6 (to see if i'm eligable)..meanwhile tommorrow i will be going to trainco to set up my training with them which starts sept 10 thru oct 4..its local which helps me out....
Trainco offers quite a few trucking companys that i wouldn't even be able to appy for and some i have already...i'm staying away from the worst ones by doing this...

I want to have more home time then being out 2-3 weeks at a time..A few companys offer this and i know i will be otr for atleast 6 months..i failed to do this the first time i went OTR and this is where it has landed me.I guess i thought i could work around this but i was wrong..

Now i'm FULLY COMMITTED to doing what All of you have already done!

I need some advice still tho and this is the best place for me to get it...

I'm looking at tanker or flatbed ,still leaving van open as a option..which will get me home the most often ...once a week is fine....My main goal is to become a local driver.....can anyone give me some advice on what or where i should start..

    thank

Have you considered going back to Schneider? Once you have a CDL, I am not sure you would need to go through training again, but you will likely need to go with a trainer. You may also be able to pay for a refresher course, instead of going through the entire training program. Most carriers will want you to stay out 2-3 weeks or perhaps longer when you first start. You may find something regional which might get you home more frequently, but unless you are willing to do what the company needs, you may want to look for another line of work. We all have to pay our dues. There are very few carriers who allow otr drivers to get home each week when they first start out. You cannot go in and dictate to a company what you are willing to do. They tell you what they need and if you meet their needs and you check out, they may give you a shot. There are companies who will get you home once a week, but most will not hire inexperienced drivers. If you want to work locally, you need to plan on working otr for at least 1 year. That seems to be the magic number for minimum experience that we hear local companies want. Occasionally, we hear about someone who starts out and lands a local job, but that isn't the norm.

While many truckdriver would like to be home more there just isn't that many local driving jobs. So needless to say those limited positions so to the drivers with the most experience.

Can someone find a local position? Yes their a few that are in the right at the right time. But even then most are low paying positions. Those high paying union jobs are hard to come by.

A few driving jobs I know about are; Milk delivery, fuel delivery, landscape delivery, postal delivery plus container delivery. I've had most of these jobs at one time or another. I happen to be lucky enough I more than I ever made OTR. There are more jobs out there but like I said employers can be picky and a good job is hard to come by unless you know someone.

Not much help but I tried.

I don't think i'm dictating to companys what i want ,i'm saying what i'm looking for (maybe i didn't word it right)...

I agreed with you guys that i will be OTR and i'm willing to do this so i can go Regional or till i can get my yr so i can go Local work...I live in Detroit area and i see alot of Local jobs just they want 1yr...
Local is my main goal in this adventure..i understand what i need to do or what i should have done the first time....i totally agree with that..

Alot of companys i have applied for don't even call me i just get the automated response and i call then and then i'm told i'm not eligable...most have said this ....

Covenant and central refrigerated and CRSt is only place that said ok this is what you need to do ..all of them want me to sign a company sponsored training contract..i'm almost done paying schneirder (I know and agree lol)
When i went to Trainco and talked to them i was surprised on how many companys will look at me after i've done their training..(mostly the companys that already said no).I understand Trainco cannot gurannteee me a job ,but if they can get my foot in at another company i'm all for it...I might be setting up roadblocks and i don't mean too ..i just being very cautious on picking a company...I'm just being a smart shopper per-say...Bought a laptop/GPS software and few other things already..I will be better prepared then last time thats for sure..

I burnt the bridge with schneirder national and i regret it...i just can't get past that gman...

My goal is not to become rich just make a decent wage and be happy and i miss driving so i'm trying what i can to do this ..i WILL pay my dues ..i Screwed up and let my wife down and let myself down...I Will Fix this ..like i said i just want to be sure and hook up with better oppturnitys thru trainco.....

Hopefullly this is understandable or makes sense..

I was just wondering if they are areas of trucking that would get me home more then others...

Thank for advice it all helps
