I would talk to the recruiters that come to your school see what they have to say.

If you want OTR then you certainly aren't going to hurt yourself by putting out as many applications as possible. A classmate of mine sent out dozens upon dozens of applications while in school and ended up with about 40 job offers by the time he graduated.

It may sound like overkill, but if you put in an app at every company you find you significatly increase your chances of finding a REALLY good company to get in with.

Another thing to keep in mind is that many insurance companies won't touch you until you're 23. Very important to test the waters first, and make sure you have somewhere to go.

23, Thats for mostly flat bed, I've sent in hundreds of applications, getting a dry van job would be easy. If your wanting to do flat bed Anderson Trucking service will take 21 year olds.

    Default I'm 20, should I wait.

Wait, your gap between earning your CDL and being hireable may be too great and you'll have to do a "refresher". BOL

I'm probably just showing my age. That's what everybody said 10 years ago, but I have no idea what it looks like today.

I've sent out a lot of applications and questions to diffrent companies, Thats mostly the pattern I have seen. Van 21, Flatbed 23, of course you have a few that are diffrent here and there.

dbkevindb, if you were smart just start sending out e-mails to different companies, or call them. Figure out what sector in trucking you want to work, ( van, tank, Flatbed , Heavy Haul etc), and see if you are Hire able, Be up front if you have any bad marks on your mvr, or employment. I started doing that since January, and I have a list of over 16 companies that I would go work for. I have had more offers than that, some I like go on my good list, other I don't like never make it.
