Default Loose leaf & regular book quesiton

If I would happen to "lose" a page or 3 out of my log book, can I shove some loose leaf sheets in there and still be legal, or is it one or the other?

    My opinion is.

Why don't you make your log book a lose leaf that you currently have?

Buy a clip board and clip them in there date order, making sure you have the original and copy just like it is in the log book.

Most log books are not numbered and then you can place the log sheets in there (as long as they are all the same kind) to account for 31 days.
You might make sure your companies log book isn't in a specific order, but it is very rare. They may have labels for the dates for you, but tell them you messed up and hand write the date.

Many drivers make their log books into lease leaf because the log books take up their arm room when doing the grid and of course for other reasons, I won't mention even though DOT is fully aware of it.

    Simple fix!

Yeah, your not going to fool the DOT, they know what your doing and have seen it many times. Just fix your logs and stay out of trouble and odds are the DOT will never want to see them. Personally I think it's easier to keep them as loose log sheets.

Contrary to want people think the DOT really isn't out to get you, their job is to make sure the roads are safe and most of them are pretty nice nice guys.

Can anyone cite the regulation that states that a binded log book must contain a certain amount of pages?

    I didn't think so.

regs say you have to have the last 7 days. doesn't even say they have to be in order. guess you could just had over 7 days worth of logs all wrinkled and folded covered in coffee stains and the dot cant legally do anything. oh i'm sure they would prolly pull you around back though!

Frankly I run a loose leaf logbook because I have been known to make mistakes....spill coffee, and my dog ate one of the pages ( ), but seriously...its easier, neater, and I just prefer it.

By the way, the DOT requires "8" pages in the book to be current, the previous "7" and the "1" you are on for that day. The only way to get by with fewer than "8" pages phsyically in the in the logbook is if one of the pages covers more than one day of off duty time.

Not too long ago I really disappointed a GA Dot man.... I only had 2 pages in the book...he asked me where the rest were... I told him thats all there were because I had been home for a solid week.... 8) He thought he had a live one..... :P 8)

And I agree with the other poster's: The DOT Officers are NOT the bad guys. Like many of you, I've been inspected and had my stuff checked over pretty thoroughly, and its always been done professionally and with courtesy....and I've always gotten my "stickers"..
Forrest Gump was right....and some people literally strive to prove it.....everyday. Strive not to be one of "them".... And "lemmings" are a dime a dozen!

Remember: The "truth WILL set you free"! If it doesn't "set you free"....."it will trap you in the cesspool of your own design".

They lost my original "avatar"....oh well.

Now Skywalker you're not saying you might fudge the logbook once in a while? I just can't believe that.

I always make a loose leaf logbook where companies supplied the books. Otherwise I printed them with DDL.

I never had more than the required number of log sheets to present to D.O.T. and I never had a problem.

I dont agree with "dot is just trying to make roads safe".
If were talking safety, then why does the piece of junk 1988 tri-axle infront of me, and the junk behind me, get the "go ahead" wave, but me, being right between both of them, in a brand new, CLEAN Kenworth practically straight off the showroom floor get stopped for a full rectum check? I have been stopped and checked atleast 6 times since November. They (DOT) are the 1 only reason I dread any day that I know I will be going over a scale. I'm seriously considering starting to charge for my autograph. I cant keep stopping my wheels everytime they want me to sign something for them.

Thats all I'm gonna say about that, and I'm not going to argue with any other replies. That wont get anyone anywhere, but I've been screwed around by them way too many times to go around and calling them "nice guys trust trying to make an honest living."

    Just one guys opinion.
BTW, thanks for the log book info. I'm gonna start doing the loose leaf deal.

The reason for frequent checks could be your companies safer record.
