Default I'm back to clarify myself

My last post a warning to newbies was exactaly that, a warning to newbies. I wasn't talking to you old hands out there who have been driving for a year or more. If you can do this job a year then you are the man/women. I have two girls and like any family they do things, softball, proms, learning to drive etc. I don't think 2000 dollars a week is enough money to miss your children growing up let alone 500-750 that most company drivers make each week. They grow up fast and before you know it they are grown and gone. For me and probally someone who is reading this post who is thinking about over the road trucking should consider these things. I honestly liked driving. I did not however enjoy trying to find a parking spot at the end of the day, especailly in the northeast. I am planning on doing 7 more years at the prison, I start on 6-01 and then retire. I will start getting a check the next month. I plan on being debt free by then as well. My wife also works at the prison and she is planning on quiting then too, she will have 18 years in and can draw a check when she reaches 62. We plan on driving then, just me, she will ride. Kids will be grown and gone and we can enjoy ourself. Maybe buy a truck and work for Landstar or something, drive as needed.

I want to end by saying, in my last post I wasn't trying to imply that everyone who drives is crazy. I do think every professional, respectful, courteous driver out ther is not making enough money for all he/she scraficies and misses out on in life. I think to miss out on your family and kids lives for no more than most drivers make is crazy. If you can find a local job and a part time job that allows you to be home and spend time with your family thats better than being home 2 days every 14-21 days. No matter how much anyone on this or any other message board says different deep down everyone knows I'm right. This job is for young people who have not started a family or older people who have raised their families and are ready to start their second carreer.

I have alot of respect for everyone out there driving day in and day out but if you are in the same situation as I am there are other jobs that allow you more home time and good money. Check you states prison system, I asure you they are hiring. The prison I work at hires every month. Yea this job sucks at times and is not for everyone either but its easy and Im home evry night................ Check out my family on my space and put the link to your pics so everyone can see your families. God bless everyone and drive safe. http://www.myspace.com/tp1234567

    Typical CO. :? ....

You pull in a lot of customers this way...by running a check on them.

Sounds like you have a good plan now...and please keep in touch.
We have a hard time getting to talk with some of our Drivers. :P

...and just so you know...I'd hate being a babysitter.
    I like my freedom!!

eptp88, I am glad that things are working out for you at the prison.
Being Over The Road is a tough job, especially if you have a family back at home. I'm sure that a lot of other drivers would rather be at home, but since most good local driving jobs require at least 1 year of expierence, we bear with it until better opurtunities come along. BOL to you and take care of your family.

    That was uncalled for.

I agree with you 100% on the OTR gig with a family. But there are good local jobs available with experience. You have made a good decision. BOL.

I think you made a wise choice for your situtation. Now you have a dream AND a plan. What more could you want?
Find something you like to do, be the best at it you can be, the money will come.
