does the company pay for hotels/food

Do you sleep in the truck all the time or do they pay for some hotel and what about food. Do they pay the tolls. What does most company pay?

Most carriers expect you to sleep in the truck, providing it has a sleeper. If you want to stay in a motel you will need to foot the bill. The exception would be if you break down and it will take more than 24 hours to make the repairs. You pay for all of your own food. Most companies pay for your tolls. You may need to front the money and send in the receipts to get reimbursed. Most will allow you to get an advance for this purpose. Some have a transponder in the truck so that their drivers don't need to pay for tolls. Some are called EZ Pass. Starting pay varies from carrier to carrier. I would expect to earn around $30,000+- your first year.

The only time most companies pay for motels is during orientation or if your truck is broke down on the road and it is going to be more than a day for it to get fixed.

As far as food goes, some will provide a meal or two per day during orientation, but other than that food is your responsibility.

Most companies will pay for all truck expenses, including tolls and CAT scale tickets that a company driver incurs while doing the job. Some companies, however, do have toll road policies where they will not pay tolls for portions or all of certain toll roads.

Companies will not, with very few exceptions, pay speeding tickets, overweight fines, etc.

that;s why that thing behind the driver seat is called a Sleeper but at any rate i know of driver's while on thier 34 hr.reset will get a Motel room just to get out of the damm truck which is at your expence and some even rent car's to ride around in while on the reset if it is a interesting place with site's

When I pulled dry van, the only time the company paid for a motel was when my truck was in the shop for a few days.....

But now that I am pulling a chemical tanker....its a different story. If we have to sit for more than one night at a terminal....we can usually go to a motel that the company uses and just sign in and they are billed direct. And the motels are nice ones :!: 8)

I have had similiar experiences as Skywalker, most of the time that I was in a terminal and laid over for service, I would be put in a hotel. On the road it would depend on the situation,but my company is very reasonable and would work with me if I kept in communication.

Heh, heh! Unless I get within 100 mile radius of your hometown, between the hours of nine to five.... there ain't no chance I'll catch you "Truckin'" PERIOD!!! :shock:

And even THEN, (and I might be wrong) I'll bet I'd find you UNLOADING a truck, instead of DRIVING one! But, hey! AT least you'll be getting paid and hourly WAGE for it!

if we are out for the 3 nights in a row on the third night you can get a hotel at my job. i am home every weekend and most nights. i work for PSC houston office. all the psc companies pay thier drivers different though. the psc in avalon, tx pays by the load. Did i mention we are hiring 2 drivers x endorsment required. NO i am not a recruiter just thought i would throw it out there for some locals. avg. year pay between 5 drivers is 63k
