    Default Desperate for a job!!

I have 8 months experience and a felony background and I'm having trouble getting anyone to hire me. They all say come back in a year when I need something now. Does anyone know of a company that might accept me? I'm looking for something in the Shreveport, La or Dothan, Al areas.

I think Western Express will hire with Felonies...not completely sure on that but you have enough experience at 8 months for them and they are all over the southeast, they run out of nashville so I would give them a call. Not the best company out there but they will run you and will probably at least talk to you.

Ouch....Thats going to follow you around for the rest of your life and always severly limit your choices in this industry. You will probably be able to find a company that will take you on, however they will know they are one of your only options and pay you accourdingly. Just the other day, I spoke with a driver with an aggrevated assualt charge and he was driving for 18 cpm. He would make a better living delivering pizzas.
    Good luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what makes the assault "Aggrevated " is a weapon was involved ?

Aggravated assault is, in some jurisdictions, a stronger form of assault, usually using a deadly weapon. A person has committed an aggravated assault when that person: attempts to cause serious bodily injury to another person; or causes such injury purposely, knowingly, or recklessly in circumstances where the person has exhibited indifference to human life; or attempts or causes bodily injury to another person with a deadly weapon. Aggravated assault is usually differentiated from simple assault by the offender's intent (i.e., to murder, to rape etc.), the extent of the injury to the victim, or the use of a deadly weapon, although legal definitions vary between jurisdictions. Sentences for aggravated assault are generally more severe, reflecting the greater degree of harm or malice intended by the perpetrator.

Sure....I turn down someone with a charge like that at least once a day. Kind of scary when you think about it.

Well fist I went to prison for two year for something I did not do.My exwife said that I tried to run over her with my car.But what really happened was that my mother and I went to pick up my clothes,But my wife at the time was not home. When we were pulling off my wife at the time pulled up whith her her father and mother. I rolled my window down and her father jumped out and hit me in the mouth. IAt that time I was mad and wanted to get out of the car but my mother said lets go.When we were trying to leave that tried to get in front of the car.No one was ever it by the car.My mother said that we should call the police but I didn't want to do that.So a few days later the police came and arrested me for assult with a deadly weapon.I told them that I didn't have a gun or anything, they said the car was the weapon.I went to court and like a dunp butt let instead of a jury I went in front of the judge and was found guilty.I think because she had done stuff like this before and I already had a record with her.She has even told the judge that she was lying. Looking back now I see how stupid I was.i even went back to her when I got out of prison because we have a daughter. Now I am out of that mess and have a new wife and two children the ex still finds me and trys to cause us problems.I have not been with my ex for over five years now.Anyway when I got out of prison I could not get a job.So I decided to go get my CDL....so her I am now tying to get my life together...with no luck.

It amazes me how many innocent people go to jail! I wish you luck in trying to straiten your life out but a lot of people are not gonna buy the "I didn't do it story" I don't know the truth but I doubt a judge anywhere would convict someone on such a weak case let alone the prosecutor even taking it to court. anyway your best bet is to change your story and maybe show a little remorse and somehow prove that you have learned from your past mistakes. you said you had other incidents like this. well from my experience that stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum
work harder, millions on welfare are counting on you !

Most people who go to jail are not innocent, but not always true. You may be surprised just how easy it is for a wife to make up something and call the cops.I have even been in bed asleep and she has called the cops.It is crazy but true.Maybe someone else out there can identify with me.I know that I am not the only person in the world that this has happen to. Believe or not believe I am just looking for a job just like any other man with a family.

In todays World in the States, if you look worg at a person they call the cops. They claim you assualted them. You can no longer punish your child for doing something wrong or they can call and have you arrested.

shonhackney Good luck in your search.

If I read your post correctly, it has been 9 years since the conviction. There should be some carriers who will give you a chance. It just may take more leg work to find one who will give you a shot.

It may help or not, but get all the endorsements you can. Anything to give yourself a little something extra to offer. Be up front about your past. Show some initiative and take some safe driving courses, anger management, just anything and everything you can do to make them notice you.
Good luck friend. I've been where you are and I empathize.

Oh hey man I just thought of two other things. One, have you checked into a temp agency job? It'll be class A work and miles on your resume if they hire you. If not 'A' work, check out some 'B' type work till you can catch a break with an A company. It'll be 'straight truck' miles for your resume in any event (plus a paycheck).
I realize money is tight, but is there any way you can get your record sealed or expunged? I know very little about the law but if that's even a remote possibility it might be worth checking out.

My other half has a misdemeanor in Pa for carrying a firearm without a permit, but when companies check his criminal record, it is a felony, and he has had trouble getting work. He has driven for CRST, Transport America and Werner. CRST and Werner are not the best, but it is a start. With your record, and if you want to work in this industry, you can't be to picky about what area you want to work out of. Many companies want the felony to be 10 years old. If it is 9 now, you have another year to wait, and maybe more opportunities will open up for you.
