    Default Hazmat Help

I'm heading over to the DMV to get some info about the hazmat test. I keep on hearing on Bozo's XM show that some drivers are not getting their hazmat's for months and months. When I pass the test do I get temp. hazmat endorsement so I can start hauling it right away or do I have to wait until I get the new license in a couple months?

I'm in Tx, 8 wks and counting for me. There's no temporary hazmat license that I know.

No there is not any temp haz mat endorsement. In order to be granted the endorsement you must pass the written test and the TSA background check. When both are completed then and only then may you haul haz mat.

The time to get cleared is varying wildly from state to state and even between background checking sites within some states.

14-90 days is the range for most background checks to come back now.

If after 30 days however you have not heard anything I would be making some phone calls and trying to get some kind of status update.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

I live in RI and I received my TSA clearance letter 2 days after I got fingerprinted.

This was a surprise since the woman at the fingerprinting facility told me that it would be 4 weeks.

Probably about right. Mine took about 2 weeks back in Dec. I was told 3.

Mine took ~3 weeks in Nevada spring of last year.

One guy who was hired a few months before me took over 2 months; but my his own admission his past was less than squeaky clean.

I've been waiting about 3 weeks now. I was told 30 days was the usual turn around by the Homeland Security subcontractors where I got fingerprinted. But I too have heard the '2 to 3 month' stories on Sesame Street.

Yeah, I originally got my HazMat in '97 and it was just like any other endorsement to the best of my recollection.

we live in AZ. it took my wife 4 weeks to get hers. I was working at a state prison at the time i took mine and it took 3.5 months. but getting the haxmat endorsment is worth it for us. we haul a lot of hzmat loads and some of them pay pretty well.
