I am starting school next week any suggestions on a good start such as companies that might pay good have good home time and benifits for rookies? Any help would be great.

CFI is the only company you need to look into.

    Default CFI

It looks like they don't hire rookies like i stated i am starting school (no exp.) and 2-3 weeks away from home is kind of long (3 weeks) No break down pay no stock options or profit sharing and at .28 cpm you would have to run run run i can make 400 to 500 a week at home so I think CFI is out for me any other companies?

most companies that hire new drivers fresh out of school arent going to pay that well. Take what you can get, eat a lot of dollar store mac and cheese and pay your dues. The good jobs will come after you get a little exp. Also, for your first job you are more than likely going to have to stay our there 2 and 3 weeks at a time. Sure you can stay enployed and spend months trying to find that great weekly hometime and high paying rookie job. Hell, you might find it. Or most likely you wont find it and you will go broke waiting.

Be very careful with the allure of "Stock Options"; While it sounds wonderful, they can come back and bite the rank and file employees in the ass very easily. Remember" There is a wORLD of differeence between an Employee Stock Purchase / OWNERSHIP Plan, and an Employee Stock OPTION Plan

As for "Profit Sharing"?? Due to the high cost of maintaining regulatory compliance, many companies have dropped that in favor of increasing 401K contributuions and providing other incentives.

CFI does hire rookies, I have been prehired by them and start school next week. I researched companys for several month and CFI and Crete seems to be the best I could find for students in my area, Oklahoma. Your needs and wants may be different then mind so I won't recomend either one as I have no direct knowledge of either. The CFI drivers I talked to seemed maybe a little more happy with the company then the Crete drivers but I saw or heard very little negitive from either one. You might check out CFIDRIVERS.com if you desire any more info on them. It is a board like this but mostly cfi drivers
If the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy.

    Default CFI

Alot of people do say CFI is a good company maybe i will keep that in mind. I know not to expect alot at first yet i have a family to think about as well i am use to working out of state for weeks at a time so that is not the problem. I know how to eat dollar menu items and things that save money. I just want a company that will give me miles and bring home enough to make a living i am hoping for 500 to 600 a week to start and i am ready to work hard for it. I know I want to be an O/O within 3 years but until then i will have to get experience under my belt. Thanks a lot for all your help guys really does make a differance on my decisions I will make. BTW what is average take home for a rookie?

    Check into Schneider as well.
I dont know anything about CFI but one thing to remember is that all trucking companies.........lie.
Seems to be the universal feeling no matter who you go with, from either bad dispatchers, poor support etc....its universal.
Everything I need to know about driving a truck I learned from watching "DUEL"

    Default Watkins Shepard

Check out Watkins Shepard. If you live close to a terminal it is a great company.

A big plus ... 10 day orientation rather than riding 4 - 8 weeks with a trainer. I drove for them for 9 months and felt they were a very good company.

I would check into May, they start grads at .32 per mile. They have a 4 to 5 week training period at 500.00 a week. Great starter company for newbees

If you want to flatbed I would suggest checking into Modular Transportation, they are out of Grand Rapids, we haul mostly steel in the Great Lakes states, I am home every weekend, I was home twice this week, I am a rookie just graduating in Jan.They are a smaller comp. w/ just about 85 power units wanting to expand to 93. They have lots of dedicated runs based on where you live(Iam the southern most driver, I live just outside of Indy)I quit TMC to go with this company. You can PM me with questions if you like, I will try to answer them or I can put you in contact with someone who can.

My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

    $605!!!!

    Were you doing warp 8?

When I got a speedo when I lived in CA is was ~$90 for 10 over.

If you are not afraid to work and can tolerate erratic income for awhile LTL can be good.

Are you tied to the area by family? From what I've been reading lately MI is tough labor market to be in right now with all steady loss of auto jobs.
