    Default Truck Registeration in IL

    Hi there,

I want to buy a truck in Illinois and I checked the DMVs website about registeration fees, mileage fees and license plates and I am very confused how much it would cost a year... Can someone simply tell me how much it will cost to get these in IL ?

You are gonna have to give a bit more info, what GVWR truck, do you plan on just running Illinois or OTR?

OH Yeah, the registration is the cheap part, then you go the dreaded 4 letter word - insurance!

Do you plan on running O/O or leased out? Gonna need DOT #, MC #, and depending on which states you run, you may need a TX DOT, KY DOT, New Mexico requires an additional permit as do others.

And above all don't forget IFTA!

I am NOT AN EXPERT on this!!! I do know that it is complicated. My recommendation is to check out some of the services that do your registrations and permits for you. Probably a LOT cheaper to pay them the first time then renew on your own next year. I know I've seen these services on load boards, OOIDA and other places but don't remember exactly where right off hand.

Hopefully someone that knows where to go will chime in and point you in the right direction. Don't try to do it alone. A friend just got fined, he though he had all the permits and registrations he needed ony to find that in Texas he needs a TX DOT # if he hauls even 1 load a year intrastate!
REMEMBER, guns don't kill! It's the jealous husband that comes home early!

BanditsCousin made a comment about this on another thread. He lives in Illinois and stated that it costs about $3,000 for everything. Of course, that is only the licensing and doesn't include insurance costs.

Illinois requires proof of paid 2290 + Insurance, plates vary by weight and how many states you have.
You estimate your mileage for the first two years I think, after that you'll need actual miles run in each state.
Do yourself a favor and keep good books, it'll make your life so much easier.
