Default Can I drive with a felony?

Back in 93 I was about 19 years old (and not the sharpest knife in the drawer evidently)and was convicted of Burglary and forgery.Since I havent been in any trouble but I relize that my convictions arent the same as a speeding ticket but basically my question is are there trucking companys out there that will give me a shot?I ask here because I have heard that recruiters will tell you your fine and then you get stranded when you go to orientation

yes there will be company's that will hire you ... start off looking on the page ... http://www.classadrivers.com/index.p...ting&ListAll=1 .... first put in the state you live in and then look through all the company's ... some will hire you since it's been that long ago,. That is if the rest of your MVR is clean ... all you can do is ask - right? ..... go for it ....

    good luck

Most carriers will hire you with a felony, depending on the offense and length of time. If your offense was at least 10 years ago, then it should not be a problem. I would just check with some of the carriers and ask them about it.

well, someone will hire you, some companies only check to see if you are breathing, so just dont bring a fog proof mirror and youre in
where cash is king, and the paid off mortgage has replaced the bmw as the status symbol of choice.

Your question said felony- meaning 1. 2 felonies could rule out some more companies. You never did answer my question about who you stole from....

Well I normally dont tell the story because it sounds like any other felon.I was out with some friends and was driving and they wanted to break in a store,I droppped them off at a shopping center and went home. They did there business and got caught,I was convicted as well because I knew it was gonna take place and there are no conspiracy charges in Virginia. So thats my story, take it for what its worth and thanks to all of you for your input.

    Let me guess the rest.

You were told by the cops that they would go easier on you if you just plead guilty, right?

And of course, you didn't think a lawyer was needed, right?

Because other than a plea of guilty, they have no proof. I'm surprise that they even got a judge to go along with it.

As far as a job goes, your not going to have a problem, as long as you are currently clean.

    Good luck.
Deja moo. It's when you feel you have heard this BS before.

You should be all right bd, your felonies wern't for drugs or violent, you probably have a decent shot at sealing or expungement. I wouldn't get 3500 dollars in debt getting a CDL, go to a tech school in your area.

Okay, hmmm sounds like a story every felon says.. I didn't do it, but you got 2 felonies out of it, and like most friends yeah they ratted you out.... I would of gone to their house and light it up while they were sleeping... maybe you would of got a 3rd felony for that, then 3 strikes your out, at least you could be in prison telling your story like, yeah them bastards ratted me out and I sent them and their families all to hell...... you would be a tough dude in prison and you butt would not get soar... instead if you get a 3rd felony you will be in prison saying, I DIDN'T DO IT... just like everyone else... I don't believe you at all, if you didn't do it then they say you knew why did you not fight it... 2 felonies for helping your friends... I would have their blood on my hands to get 2 felonies..... your silly, go get a job at Mcdonalds like all the other felons...
The only good thing about winning is ..... your first next to losing!

First what I was convicted of I never said I didnt do.The way the law is written in Virginia I was convicted basically because of not ratting my friends out.Did I know I could be convicted if I didnt rat them out?Yes so that makes me guilty correct? And as far as you not believing me I couldnt care less.Criminal offense's are a matter of public record.

He was an accesory. I think a felony is a pretty hefty price for dropping them off. Still, we must all live and learn.

I don't know what the forgery is for, but hopefully nobody got hurt.

With the felonies that old, you should be hire-able. Its the 2nd felony that concerns me. 2 may (or may not) be too many. As said above, you can get a local job making better than otr wages. Is otr what you want?

sorry for the late comeback, but have been busy, I worked at a Driving school 6 years ago, this is the response I gave to a person with a felony.

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but you may have to go to a truck driving school to get your CDL's. I worked as a recruiter at a Truck Driving School 6 years ago, and we had 50 Trucking Companies that would hire our graduates, but only 3 that would hire people with a felony conviction.

And then it was according to what it was over, for example if it was assault, this was death to getting hired because they figured if a person assaulted someone then they for sure did not want them in a truck.

Another one almost impossible to get hired on with was theft, because most companies figured if a person stole before, then they would steal from them.

I don't remember which 3 companies would hire, but my advice would be to go to a Truck Stop and get the little Truck Driver Books that list all the different companies and then call the toll free number and just ask them.

Most will tell you straight up, but not all.

On Truck Driving Schools, don't just go and sign with anyone because once you sign your name your hooked. Be sure to look over everything, and be cautious about everything.

One last thing, if a Truck Driving School tells you they can for sure get you a job after graduation, ask them with what companies, and then ask for the phone numbers and call them yourself.

If they stumble at the company name or phone number, hang up because they are lying to you.

I use to get quite a few of people who had trouble in the past come to our driving school because I would call the companies that would hire people with problems in the past, and tell them what was going on, and could they hire them.

Then I would call the person back and give them the company name, person, and phone number to call and check out if I was telling the truth.

That sounds about right rick, he could have 50 people turn him down but about 3 would hire him. Bd has a leg to stand on, as far as I know burglary and forgery are non-violent, that makes a difference. I wouldn't get locked into a 3000-5000 dollar contract with a CDL mil, but go to a vocational or tech school, if you really want to drive.

My Assault charge has only cost me 3 potential employers. I was young and stupid 12 years ago and that crap has haunted me until this day. I'm getting my record wiped this year so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Thanks to most of you for your help.Swift has agreed to hire me I just have to call them back and tell them when Im ready to go.With my felonys I think the fact that I never really did any time(sentence was suspended)has helped my case alot.
