    Default Maverick Orientation

I just wanted y'all to know that I just finished my last load with Prime and that I start Maverick orientation Sunday. Seems a little odd for a company who sends drivers home on the weekend to start Orientation on Sunday, but anywho, I'm very excited about coming onboard with Maverick and I'll be sure to let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for all of the advice.

    Good luck Ryan.

My guess as to why they do this is because, if you were coming to them with flatbed experience, the orientation and initial training runs through the middle of Wednesday. Then you will spend Wednesday and half of Thursday testing out and getting your truck assignment. By Thursday afternoon you will be dispatched out to your first pickup so you can be headed to the house for the weekend and normally get home sometime on Friday. This is just my guess, I have nothing else to base this on, but if they started on Monday, that would put all of this behind by one day and you wouldn't get home until sometime on Saturday, probably late Saturday. Their whole system is setup to not only get drivers home for the weekend, but to get you home on Friday rather than Saturday.

That's the best explanation I've heard. It seemed odd to me also they started on a Sunday.

Ryan, congratulations and enjoy your time in L.R. The orientation is...well...orientation, but then your either into securement training or on the road depending on whether you have previous flatbed experience.

The securement training keeps you moving and can be fun depending on your attitude and the group of trainees your with. We had a blast in securement training while I was there. But, PAY ATTENTION at all times! Maverick's trainers are very good but they will call you out on each and every mistake you make with the securements (after all it is called "securement training"). You have to understand that they have ONE week to instill in you the securement methods that they want you to use every day for as long as you work there....starting with day 1! They HAVE to be hard on you to get these securements right. Properly secured freight is not likley to ever hurt you or anyone else. Improperly secured freight is a fatality waiting to happen. Don't worry over it, just be prepared to pay attention and when it's all over you'll be confident in your ability to haul a safe load. It all makes sense after you've been shown properly...and you will be.
