Default Days off? How do they work?

I was just wondering how days off worked. I hear, work a week get a day off, weekends off, etc. Is every company different? about the same? Could you request a day off? I'm not sure what to really ask, I have all these questions planned out and all but once I get on line to ask I go blank. So any ensite on this will be helpful and welcomed. Thank you.

most of them do it ABOUT the same you get one day off for each week you stay out and most want you to stay out for 2-5 weeks then you get 2-5 days off. some count the day you get home as a day off (my company doesn't) others start the next day.

if you want to be home on X day you just plan it out a few weeks before so that is your hometime, it takes a little bit to get it down.

i have days that I WILL be home so the month before i need to be home i just stay out a little longer or or go home a little sooner so the next month i will be home when i need to (wife's b-day, my b-day, son's b-day, thanksgiving, x-mass, superbowl sunday) you just have to look at when you want off and then work it out

I'm curious about that myself. I also would like to know how it works..say your home is in TN like me, but you driving out in say...wisconsin. When it comes time for a day or two off, do they give you a load going to TN? and then just park the bobtail in the driveway of your home for a couple of days? Do they give you a certain time to be back in the truck and on the qualcomm or phone to get the next load?

Sorry didn't mean to reply without giving you an answer, but Im curious as to how this works as well.

That is pretty much the way it will work. They will get you a load near your home and you will either deliver on your way or take the load home and deliver it after your days off. If you come home will the load, you will have your delivery appointment time. You will need to leave your home and come back to the Qualcomm in time for you to make the delivery.

i used to run 3 weeks and take 3 days off.on 3 day weekends i would always be at a truckstop 300 miles from home friday, with a tuesday unload.
if i went back out there i would not put up with that.after 90 days probation i would stay home 4 days maybe more if i felt like it..i would be home on a 3 day week end.i put up with it when i needed experience.

Some of theses carriers are really stingy.... Preferably you want to be at home to do your 34hr reset, but if you run OTR, that will likely not work out unless you happen to life in that companies major freight lane. Check closely~! If you live in some godforsaken village in nowhereland, expet to be home for a few days every few weeks.
