Disqualifying level for blood sugar?

I've looked through the FMCSA site and i've found nothing really specific.

Does anybody know what the maximum amount of sugar you can have in your urine? BTW, does anybody know what the maximum number you can get on a glucose tester? For some reason the number 145 keeps popping in my head.

That would depend on the tester.. the normal level for a non diabetic should be less than 120, anything over that and you should see a Doc..

Generally speaking when Blood Sugar gets above 150 accucheck, then it will definately be spilling into the urine, which then will alert the med examiner to a potential problem.

i went in to renew my medical card and i had lost 55 pounds and it was 277mg/dl. at this point she refused to sign and i had a month to get it down before it expired.thats the scenario.you must renew your med card every two years and if you dont follow prescribed diet,exercise and med no med officer will certify you.i take metformin and basic foods.normal is 70-110.diabetic 70-140.i eat too much and usually have a couple 145 readings a week.

If you are diabetic the maximum amount of time for a med certification is suppose to be 1 year.

first she gave me a 3 month one card.then she gave me a two year card it expires 9/11/08.i have to get blood drawn every 3 months tho.i go in for a new card a month early because i had a 1 year card before that for blood pressure and took a week to get that one.live fast die young! :twisted:

I am Diebetic on an Insulin Pump and I have applied for a Diebetic Medical Exemption through FMCSA to apply for a CDL to drive. I believe that there requirements on Sugar levels are 100 to 400 mg/dl before hitting the road and after driving. I am at work and do not have the paperwork in front of me but when I get home at 9am , I will look and write another message on this issue.
I have had to send my blood work to them and from my endo Dr for the last 3 months.
As far as ADA is concerned 70-120, anything over 120 especially after meals needs to checked by a DR.
As far as my cozmore Insulin pump goes, if i have a sugar level greater than 240,needs to be checked for Keytons in Urine.
Will write more later this am on correct levels from FMCSA.

FMCSA's major concern is that a driver can drive a CMV safely. A CMV driver should not have large fluctuations in blood gloucose levels. Drivers should maintain blood gloucose levels between 100 to 400 mg/dl prior to and while driving a CMV. This range is not intended to reflect stable medical control while taking insulin. The determination of a patient's stable control is left to the treating endorocrinologist.

does this mean, that a person can take insulin, and pass the medical exam so he/she and drive a big truck? it has been my understainding that you had to keep your blood level down under 200, but I don't really know.

What I wrote to you guys was part of the paperwork that FMCSA sent to me that my Endo Dr had to fill out. This is part of Diebetic Medical Exemption Endocrinoligist Medical evaluation Checklist. I am just writing you guys what they sent me.
I do not know anymore about it. I am hoping they will approve me to drive with my Diebetic Insulin pump !
go to www.cozmore.com and look at what this pump will and can do !! This is not shots, it is different. That is what I my argument is all about.

thanx for the info rcmtt2.there is an exemption which is what he is talking about.there is legislation tied up in dc somewhere to do away with the exemption and allow all diabetics who pass the physical otherwise, on the road.with the new blood pressure standards many drivers over 40 face issues when renewing medical cards and i know of 2 forced to retire.40 comes up quick and all that soda,coffee,sugar,junk food and cigarettes will accumulate and rock your world
