    Default Hubby got fired - Update

    Hey guys,

    My husband got canned at Tandem for getting 9 pts on his record. I don't remember the point distribution, but they were for:

    * speeding - 5 over
    * improper lane use (whatever the heck that means)
    * speeding - 7 over
    * failure to obey traffic signal (hubby swears up and down there was not a stop sign where the cop says there was... whatever)

    4 violations within the last two years

    Are there any trucking companies that will take him? or are we screwed until sometime next year?

    I have the feeling I know the answer since he already called Swift and they said they only allow three violations in the past three years. :sad:

    If he cant get a trucking job i dont know what we're gonna do... Mich economy sux.

    Thanks for any tips you can give me...

    Rae

    ~~ Update~~

    The three companies that seemed to be possibilities all said no after talking to hubby's previous employer... Looks like he's out of the industry for a while... Not sure what we'll do now... If anyone knows of any job opps in MI that pay decent let me know.

    Thanks.

    I think there are a few companies that will take him. Look in the section of companies here under Drivers get new help and then compare companies.

    How long has he been driving? That will make a difference also!

    Best Wishes to you!

    Ok this was me 15 years ago,don't be too hard on your husband he is probably just as upset as you are,I know I was.

    It took me about 3 months to find a company to hire me,I eventually found a small private company,6 trucks hauling boats.This would be a place to start don't neccesarily only check the large companies look around at some smaller ones.

    After my first 5 years I have had 1 speeding ticket in the last 15yrs,and none since 94'.

    I also was not allowed to drive our personal vehicle because the insurance company would not insure me,so as you can see it does work as a wake up call.

    Not in a big truck. I've seen a number of MVR's with actual fine paying tickets for 1 MPH over the limit.

    Thanks for the good head start, GFI... I found the page on the website that lists all the info and found three flatbed companies he'll probably call first but beggars can't be choosy... he might have to go with a van co.

    He promised to be an exemplary driver from now on so I think I'll let him live. :wink:

    That's nuts, It is so easy to go five over let alone 1 mile over. What company do you know whose tech's certify a trucks speedo as guaranteed accurate, when to truck has 300,000 miles on it.

    Can't answer that, but I've seen more than a few "1 MPH over" tickets in the 5+ years I've been doing this.

    Let me guess-it was either in a construction zone or California

    Just because a ticket was written for 1 over or 5 over or whatever does not mean that was what the speeder was clocked at doing.

    Back in my young and stupid teenage days I had more than one cop cut me a break by knocking 5 mph or more off a ticket.
    Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

    ticket for 1 mph over? must of have some pretty bad day havin cops. What's the fine for that like 5 bucks? Can you just pay the cop and save yourself the hassle (and not in a slip a 100 to him with your license sort of payment plan)

    Not to complicate things, but this was probably "Failure to obey a traffic control device," which is in effect a speed limit sign. Rather than write him for the speed, it's a lesser violation and a set fine (usually under $100 depending on the location) vs. a varying scale set on the speed.

    My aunt got a 61 in a 60 in the Oklahoma panhandle. Speedtrap central.
    You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.

    Well, that doesn't suprise me. She said her and her husband were in Mich and the county cops there will pull stuff like that. my one and only speeding ticket was in Mich going 60 on a 55 on M-40 out in the middle of nowhere.
    I'll never forget coming home from Grand Rapids one nite and I have never saw so many people pulled over by cops in my life going down 131, musta been 20 or 30 cars pulled over. Turns out there was an OZZY Osbourne concert that nite in GR, talk about profiling.
