Default Think I'll get to drive an 18-wheeler for 1st time tomorrow

I've been in Tech. school (truckdriving class) for 2 weeks now, and so far we've been in the classroom going over the stuff you have to study to get your Class AP learners (I already had mine to begin with, so twas a breeze for me). We've also been over logging time (I know how to weekly log, but I still don't get that monthly logging or the split-logging) and mapping. But they said tommorrow we'd be outside going over the pre-trip and they said we might get to practice some straight-line backing. They said they'd teach me how to drive a standard-shift, but I don't see how because there's not really enough room on the range to get going that fast, but maybe I'll learn anyhow. Anyways, wish me luck.

You will get a chance to shift gears. The way big trucks are geared you can get through almost 3 gears in about 100 ft depending how heavy you are. So don't worry you will get some shifting exp. before you get out on the roads.

We did about three or four days of classroom and then got our permits. It was all driving after that.

Guess they want to make sure you know your stuff?
